We originally shared this heartbreaking story the day after the devastating Thanksgiving Eve fire that claimed the lives of three beautiful children in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
At that time, the fire hadn't been thoroughly investigated, and information pertaining to its cause and how the events of the evening played, was scarce at best.
However, after a weeks-long investigation, there are still many questions left unanswered.
The children's mother, Jourdan Feasbly, is pushing for answers regarding her ex and the children's father that day. Her primary question is how he made it out alive and primarily unscathed while his three children lost their lives inside of his apartment.
She claims things just aren't adding up and wonders why Joshua Kannin left the children inside after seeing that a fire had started in the apartment's kitchen.
Joshua told police at the time that he had a cigarette in the kitchen before going to bed, but he was sure he extinguished it.
Joshua said after putting Rylee and Conner to bed in their second story bedroom that he had fallen asleep a short time later. He said that at that time, his daughter Alena was still awake.
According to Joshua's statements, he woke a short time before 11 p.m. with his eyes cloudy and irritated. He claims that when he went downstairs and saw a small fire in the kitchen, he just panicked.
Rather than waking his children that instant, he ran to a neighbor's home in an attempt to get help. According to Joshua, as he was banging on the neighbors door, he was also yelling for his kids to come downstairs.
Joshua went on to state that after banging on the neighbors door, he returned to his home where he could hear his children inside. He said when he opened the door to his apartment and tried to go in, he only made it two steps before turning around due to smoke. He told police on the scene that the fire had gotten worse because he opened the door. Joshua would ultimately seek medical help for smoke inhalation but would be released from the hospital within hours.
The poor children all lost their lives inside of the apartment. Firefighters described finding the two brothers downstairs in the kitchen/dining area. It seems the two had tried to escape.
The little girl, Alena, was found upstairs near the stairwell. She was badly burned and clinging to life.
Alena was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Now, with the mother questioning Joshua's actions, authorities in Kenosha have released statements saying that they are examining the possibility of arson and potentially homicide in the case.
With Kenosha PD spokesperson Lt. Joshua Hecker stating, “This is a complex and evolving case, and we remain committed to a thorough, impartial, and evidence-driven investigation.”
Our thoughts continue to be with the family of the three children, and we hope that this grieving mother gets the answers she deserves.
