APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Man breaks into church and steals offerings contributed by worshippers The Ekiti State Police Command has paraded a 32-Year-old man, Akindele Opeyemi Olufemi, who was arrested at a "Stop and Search Point" by men of the Safer Highways of the Command. The suspect was on a Motorcycle and had a bag on him when he was stopped for a search. He initially rebuffed all attempts to Search his bag but was later overpowered by the Police. After a thorough search, different denominations of Nigerian currency were found in his possession. When interrogated, he could not give a clear explanation as to how he got the money. Police investigations later revealed that he stole the money from the Christ Apostolic Church, Camp Ground in Ikeji, Ara-Ikeji, Osun State. He confessed to the commission of the crime, as he said he served in the Church for Two years as a Security guard and resigned earlier this year, so he went back to the Camp Ground in the guise of a "Personal all night Prayer...

POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION PRESS RELEASE PSC APPROVES DISMISSAL OF 7 SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS OVER GROSS MISCONDUCT, REDUCES THE RANKS OF TEN OTHERS, EXONERATES 4 OFFICERS The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of seven senior Police Officers over gross misconduct. The Commission also approved the reduction in rank of ten other officers. The decisions were taken at the on-going 15th Plenary Meeting of the Commission which is expected to end on Thursday, October 6th, 2022. The dismissed Officers were, one Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), a Superintendent of Police (SP) and five Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).  A Superintendent of Police (SP) was also retired in public interest. The Commission’s Plenary Meeting presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, JSC (rtd) considered all the Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) before the Commission totalling 47 and also treated some appeals from dismissed Police Officers. Protest Against EFCC Turns Bloody As Nigerian Police Shoot 3 Protesters, Over 20 Trucks Burnt Tuesday's protest embarked upon by youths against the operations of the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Delta State has turned violent and bloody. The protestors alleged incessant harassment, molestation and arrest by officials of the anti-graft agency. However, the protest soon turned violent with the burning of over 20 trucks with goods worth several millions of naira. The protest, which caused serious commotion and panic took place at the Otovwodo junction of Ughelli community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state. It allegedly involved suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys.  SHOPLIFTING: POLICE RESCUE FOUR FROM MOB. ACTION Police operatives attached to Surulere Division have rescued one Babatunde Ogunsemi ‘m’ aged 48, Olatunde Ayinde 'm' aged 50, Oludare Olusegun 'm' aged 49 and Sunday Ebifega 'm' aged 41 from a mob for allegedly shoplifting at a supermarket in Surulere.  The suspects were rescued and thereafter arrested following swift deployment of officers after receipt of a distress call from members of the community about the mob action. MAN DIES AFTER NINE BOTTLES OF 'OGOGORO' IN PLATEAU A unidentiefied drunk man from Bokkos local government area of Plateau State, who boasted that he can take nine bottles of locally brew alcoholic drink “Ogogoro” without getting intoxicated has died. Hafsat Abubakar of the Women Leaders of the Conflict Mediation Mitigation Regional Council (CMMRC) Plateau chapter said the unidentified man had requested the seller of the local gin to give him 11 bottles and swore that he would finish it without anything or any embarrassment happening. Abubakar, who was hinted about the details of what transpired at the drinking joint, told The Nation that the man succeeded in gaggling nine bottles but could no longer continue to finish the remaining two bottles. NSCDC Arrests Two Illegal Oil Dealers In Anambra Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State have arrested two persons suspected to be dealing in illegal petroleum products in the state. In a release, the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Mr Edwin Okadigbo said the Operatives of the Corps through a credible intelligence intercepted one truck and arrested the suspects conveying fifty thousand litres of the product suspected to be adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), known as diesel to an undisclosed location. He explained that the feat was made possible by the newly reconstituted Anti- Vandalism Squad of the Command headed by Mrs Chinenye Chinweze . EFCC Arrests Ekiti DJ for Impersonating Popular Artiste Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested an Ekiti state-based Disc Jockey,  Famotemi Toluwani Timothy for allegedly impersonating a  hip-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable”.  He was arrested on Thursday,  September 29 ,2022 Timothy, a native of Igede-Ekiti in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State,  allegedly opened an Instagram account with the name “Zazoo Omolalomi Portable” where he claimed to be the singer. Investigations showed that the suspect met one of his victims,  Adebayo Adedimeji Lukman, running  a Club in Offa, Kwara State,  on social media and  introduced himself as “Portable”  and bargained  to perform at the Club for the sum of N1 million naira.  FG Presents Certificate Of Registration To CONUA, Other The minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, presented certificates of registration to two university-based unions.  The certificates were presented to factions of the Academic Staff Union of Universities known as the Congress of Nigerian University Academics and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics.
