During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. 9 rescued, others still trapped in collapsed Abuja 4-storey hotel 4th Jul 2023  The Federal Fire Service says rescue operations at the site of the collapsed four-storey building at Dape in Life Camp, Abuja, will resume on Tuesday at 8.a.m. Mr Emeribe David, a Superintendent of Fire, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene of the disaster, that all the agencies involved agreed to resume the rescue operation on Tuesday morning. NAN reports that the building, which was said to be a hotel under construction, collapsed around 4 p.m. on Monday, trapping undisclosed number of labourers. David, who led the team of firemen to the site, said that the fire service received a distress call around 4.pm and reached the site about 15 minutes later. He said that his team joined other agencies in the operations to save the lives of the people trapped in the wreckage. Hajj: Kaduna loses 2 more pilgrims as preparation for return journey begins 4th Jul 2023  Two more pilgrims from Kaduna state have died after performing their hajj rites in Saudi Arabia.  The special assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Ibrahim Giwa confirmed the deaths to our correspondent in Makkah. He identified the pilgrims as Bashir Umar Sambo from Kubau Local Government and Sulaiman Abubakar (Unguwan Lalli) from Igabi Local Government Areas of the state. “The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency announces the death of Sulaiman Abubakar Unguwan Lalli, KD 086 TRK from Igabi LGA and Bashir Umar Sambo, KD 318 KB from Kubau LGA. “This brings the total number of deceased pilgrims in Saudi Arabia to four. Gov. Otu imposes curfew in 2 Cross River LGAs 4th Jul 2023  Gov. Bassey Otu has declared a dusk to dawn curfew in Akpabuyo and Bakassi Local Government Areas of Cross River, following crisis in the two LGAs. A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh said the curfew takes immediate effect and will run from 7pm to 6am. It would be recalled that both LGAs in the Southern Senatorial District of the state have been recording crisis for weeks in which lives and properties were lost. According to the governor, movement of people and vehicles have been banned during the curfew hours. He said that the measure became necessary to ensure the safety of lives and properties, as well as forestall further breakdown of law and order. “The public is therefore advised in their own interest to adhere strictly to these directives,” he added.

The NULGE also demanded a single institution fixing salaries of workers and that political officeholders ensure parity, adding that there is the same market system across the country. Sit-at-home: Two suspected robbers, four vehicles burnt in Anambra, Abia Two suspected armed robbers and four vehicles were burnt in Anambra and Abia states yesterday as residents continued to observe sit-at-home. Residents of major cities in Enugu and Imo states also stayed home in spite of assurances of their safety by their state governments. Tinubu govt announces plan to collect tax from market traders, informal sector President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government has announced the Value Added Tax Direct Initiative to enable FG to collect taxes from the informal sector. The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, disclosed this in a statement through its Twitter handle on Monday. FIRS is expected to partner with the Market Traders Association of Nigeria, MATAN, to collect & remit VAT from their members, especially those in the informal sector.

Rescue Operation Continues As 4 Storey Building Collapse In Abuja July 3, 2023 Nine persons have been rescued from a four-storey building that collapsed in the Life Camp Area of Abuja on Monday, July 3. The building, under construction at the time of the collapse, had many workers trapped in it. According to a report, there were about 20 people in the building, which was said to have an underground facility. Officials of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), among other response teams, were at the scene to conduct rescue operations. Building collapse has become a recurring incident in the FCT. On Wednesday, April 19, two persons died in a building collapse in the Wuse 2 area of the FCT. On Thursday, February 2, a three-storey building, still under construction, collapsed in the Gwarimpa area of the FCT, killing three persons.
