 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU RECONSTITUTES NNPC LIMITED BOARD, APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN, GROUP CEO President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited board, removing the chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure and the group chief executive officer, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari.   President Tinubu removed all other board members appointed with Akinyelure and Kyari in November 2023.   The new 11-man board has Engineer Bashir Bayo Ojulari as the Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman.   Adedapo Segun, who replaced Umaru Isa Ajiya as the chief financial officer last November, has been appointed to the new board by President Tinubu.   Six board members, non-executive directors, represent the country's geopolitical zones. According to Naija News, Shaibu shared his doubts about Obaseki during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program on Tuesday. Shaibu admitted that he lacked confidence in Obaseki's leadership even before they took office on November 12, 2016.  Israel Executed 15 Paramedics And Buried Them In A Mass Grave On Monday, Palestinians conducted funerals for 15 medics and emergency responders who were killed by Israeli forces in southern Gaza. Their bodies, along with damaged ambulances, were discovered in a makeshift mass grave that appeared to have been covered by Israeli military bulldozers. The Palestinian Red Crescent stated that the deceased workers and their vehicles were clearly identified as medical and humanitarian personnel, accusing Israeli troops of executing them "in cold blood." Among the deceased were eight Red Crescent workers, six members of Gaza's Civil Defense emergency unit, and a staff member from UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinians.  Heavy fighting reported between Sudanese army, rival RSF in southern Sudan Fierce clashes were reported Tuesday between the Sudanese army and its rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the strategic city of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in southern Sudan. A military source told Anadolu that the army inflicted heavy losses on RSF's troops and equipment, forcing them to flee positions. Witnesses said clashes with heavy weapons erupted in the western areas of El-Obeid in the early hours of Tuesday, but calm was later restored to the city. The RSF is yet to comment on the army’s announcement. The city recently endured intensified artillery shelling by RSF militants, resulting in fatalities and casualties.  World Bank Approves $632m Loan For Nigeria The World Bank has approved new loans totaling $632 million to support key sectors in Nigeria, including nutrition and basic education, despite growing concerns over the country’s rising debt. According to the bank’s website, the loans include $80 million for the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0 project and $552 million for the HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All program. Both were officially approved on Monday as part of the World Bank’s broader strategy to aid Nigeria’s development in healthcare, education, and community resilience. The funding aims to enhance nutrition outcomes and improve access to quality education for Nigerian children.  African Airlines record 5.7% decreased demand for air cargo in February — IATA African airlines recorded a 5.7% year-on-year decline in air cargo demand in February 2025, with capacity decreasing by 0.6% in the same period. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTK), dropped by 0.4%, although international operations saw a 1.1% increase. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) report showed that global capacity decreased by 0.4%, with international operations showing a slight increase of 0.4% in demand. Globally, air cargo demand fell by 0.1% compared to February 2024, marking the first decline since mid-2023. ā€œAfrican airlines saw a 5.7% year-on-year decrease in demand for air cargo in February. Capacity decreased by 0.6% year-on-year,ā€ the report read in part.
