 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  Tragic Accident Claims Life of Zimbabwean Driver on R71 Road A Zimbabwean national driving a red VW Polo tragically lost his life in a horrific car accident on the R71 road near JCI Mine in Gravelotte, Phalaborwa, on the morning of Saturday, 10 May 2025. According to reports, the man was on his way to Zimbabwe to see his wife and newborn baby. It is believed that he had sent his wife home to give birth and was excited to reunite with his family. Zimbabwean nationals living in the Phalaborwa area have since come together to raise funds to support the repatriation and burial of their fellow countryman. Details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear, and local authorities are continuing investigations. More photos below.

 Young Woman Rescued from Suicide Attempt in Aba A young woman was rescued earlier today after attempting to take her own life along the Waterside axis of Okpulumobo in Aba. According to eyewitnesses, swift action by passersby prevented a tragic outcome. Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but the timely intervention of concerned individuals at the scene has been credited with saving her life.  Authorities have yet to release an official statement as the situation develops.  EFCC Arrests 17 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Kwara Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters in coordinated sting operations in Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state. They were rounded up at Asa Dam, Al-Hikmah University area and Gaa-Odota areas of Ilorin and in Ganmo and Amoyo areas of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state. The arrests which took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 followed actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to fraudulent internet activities in the state.  Five Men Arrested After Failed Cash-In-Transit Heist in Botswana Five men, three South Africans and two Botswana nationals, have been arrested following a failed cash-in-transit heist in Botswana. Authorities say the suspects were caught shortly after the attempted robbery. They were found in possession of high-calibre rifles and live ammunition, raising concerns about cross-border criminal activity.  The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape has confirmed the release of Pastor Timothy Omotoso, who appeared in the East London Regional Court on charges related to the contravention of the Immigration Act following his arrest on Saturday in the East London CBD.  According to NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali, Omotoso was released because the Department of Home Affairs failed to follow proper procedures, as he was required to appear in court within 48 hours, by 7am on Monday, but was only brought before the court at 2pm. The NPA stated that the Department of Home Affairs would provide further comment on the matter.

In a statement issued on Monday by Acting Spokesperson Hakama Sidi-Ali, the apex bank cautioned citizens against falling prey to individuals and groups falsely claiming to represent the CBN in offering contracts, grants, or financial interventions. The bank clarified that it does not initiate such offers through unsolicited communications, including emails, phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, or social media platforms.  FG Approves Medipool Policy to Slash Costs of Drugs, Medical Consumables The Federal Government has greenlit a new policy, Medipool, aimed at reducing the costs of drugs and medical consumables for Nigerians, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Monday. Announcing the decision, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, described Medipool as a group purchasing organization designed to secure competitive pricing and serve as a supplier of essential medicines and healthcare products nationwide.
