 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. NDLEA, Interpol sign MoU on access to global criminal data records The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the International Criminal Police Organization, popularly known as Interpol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU that will enable the anti-narcotics agency contribute to the pool of global criminal data and also access such records of 195 countries around the world for its use. A South African woman, Palesa Ya Seponono had to get stitches on her face after her baby daddy attacked her with a broken bottle.   The mother of one on Monday, October 3, 2022, posted photos showing what her face looks like after the attack.  "He decided to do this on my face, I didn't want to talk about it, but I just can't. This is the way I look now," she wrote.  Details of the incident are still sketchy but one Omahau Light identified the suspect as Thabo Lietsoso Sempe. More photos below.

Footballer, Wisdom, Bags 12 years for Internet Fraud in Ilorin A professional footballer, Jacob Wisdom Chukwuemeka, was on Monday, October 4, 2022 convicted and sentenced to twelve years imprisonment, for offences bordering on internet fraud and possession of fraudulent funds. He was jailed by Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin. Chukwuemeka who was arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC was convicted after pleading guilty to two-count charges bordering on possession of fraudulent funds.

Anambra communities deploy deities in fighting crime The people of Ukpor community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State have invoked over 20 deities in the community for protection and spiritual warfare, following the spate of crime and other security-related challenges in the area, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports This comes barely three months after Okija community in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state invoked over 15 deities of the community for similar purpose. Some video clips from the scenes, on the social media, show Ukpor indigenes troop out en masse to witness and be part of the cleansing exercise, which was led by the spiritual heads (Ezemmuos and Ezenwaanyis) of the various deities in the community. 23 Remaining Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack Victims, Regain Freedom Terrorists said to belong to Boko Haram on Wednesday released 23 remaining captives of the Kaduna train attack of March 28, 2022. This was disclosed by the Secretary of the Chief of Defence Staff Action Committee (CDSAC), Prof. Usman Yusuf in a statement on Wednesday. Yusuf said that the hostages were released at about 4pm on Wednesday. He said the “seven-man Presidential Committee assembled by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General L.E.O. Irabor secured the release and took custody of all the 23 remaining passengers held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists following the attack on the Abuja to Kaduna train on 28-3-2022”.
