Key Points from the Meeting: Lawmakers remain divided over Obasa’s return, with some still bitter about how they were pressured into reinstating him. Discussions focused on the case involving suspended Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, who had sued the Assembly after being replaced with Ottun Babatunde following Obasa’s removal in January. DONALD DUKE OPENS UP ON FLORENCE ITA GIWA. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.

Image
Donald Duke Opens Up On Florence Ita Giwa In human interactions, two factors are sacrosanct, age and authority and even more so in the African context. On both counts, Mma Florence is my senior. Indeed, if she were family, she would qualify as my late 94 year old mothers immediate junior sister, as none of my aunties are anywhere near her age and I don’t take that lightly. I recall a former federal minister, telling me that when he started secondary school at Lagos in 1952, Mma Florence the same year commenced training as an auxiliary nurse at Aba. Indeed, Mma Floxy as I fondly and respectfully call her, had aspired and contested the Ms. Nigeria pageant, while I was still a foetus, (she contested in April 1961 and I was born much later in September of the same year). On a personal note, I stood in as her person of contact when she did liposuction, breast implant and upliftment, so I consider her somewhat of an aunt, a next of kin. Contrarily, Mma Floxy, has been known to be courte...

Rescuers on a rubber boat sail through the flooded streets in the southern district of Jakarta, searching for trapped residents on March 4, 2025, as torrential rains continue plummeting Indonesia's capital.  Thousands of people were evacuated in Indonesia's capital Jakarta on Tuesday after floods swamped the region, officials said, with heavy rain expected to continue until next week.  Torrential rain since Monday has triggered floods of up to 3 meters in and around Jakarta, the country's disaster agency said in a statement, blocking some roads and submerging over 1,000 houses and many cars.  Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung raised the alert level to the second highest of the critical stages, calling on the local government to activate water pumps to extract water from flooded areas and conduct weather modification operations — which typically includes shooting salt flares into clouds to trigger rain before they reach land.  Local media reported floodwater...

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s harassment claims sign of weakness- Ita-Giwa By Okiki Adeduyite A former lawmaker for Cross-River South Senatorial District, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has dismissed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claim of sexual harassment, stating that women cannot be harassed once they become senators. Speaking on Arise TV on Tuesday, Ita-Giwa argued that it is a sign of weakness for female lawmakers to make such claims. Akpoti-Uduaghan had alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio frustrated her motions on Ajaokuta Steel Company because she refused his sexual advances. Ita-Giwa, however, said, “By the time you contest elections and get to Senate, you have passed that stage of your life of being sexually harassed. You go there to serve, and you are all equal in that place. “And again, it shows weakness; you don’t allow it. It (sexual harassment) can not happen in the Senate. “I am not saying the lady is lying, but when you get to the Senate, you’re there as a person. Y...

TRUMP WILL ADDRESS CONGRESS TUESDAY NIGHT. (PHOTO).

Image
U.S. President Donald Trump will address Congress Tuesday night, capping some of the most consequential first weeks of any U.S. presidency.  Usually known as the State of the Union in non-inauguration years, the address will provide Trump with a public stage to lay out his vision for the U.S. economy and immigration policy and allow him to defend recent controversial decisions to cut the federal workforce and confront Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.  But the most pressing challenge for Trump will be to unite Republican majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives to pass a budget funding the government past a March 14 deadline. Republicans differ on whether to cut popular social safety net programs such Medicaid, which provides health insurance to those with low incomes, to pay down the U.S. debt and pay for an extension of the 2017 tax cuts passed during Trump’s first term.
