 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Bianca, the wife of late Odumegwu Ojukwu, has explained why she slapped Ebele Obiano at the inauguration ceremony of Prof. Charles Soludo. Bianca in an interview with Arise TV on Friday said Ebele Obiano was noticeably absent as the inauguration ceremony started but arrived an hour later. She said: “I did not pay any attention to her arrival. Surprisingly, she walked towards me and I thought she was coming to greet me. RUSSIAN TROOPS 'SHOOT THEMSELVES IN THE LEGS TO AVOID FIGHTING IN UKRAINE'.(PHOTO).

Russian soldiers are shooting themselves in the legs to avoid fighting in Ukraine, it is reported. In one conversation between soldiers intercepted by Belarusian media source NEXTA, a Russian said: "They've been shooting at us for 14 days. We're scared. We're stealing food, breaking into houses. We're killing civilians. "Russian officers shoot themselves in the legs to go home. There are corpses everywhere." Another said troops are "looking for Ukrainian ammunition in order to shoot themselves in the legs and go to hospital". It is thought harsh punishments will be dished out to soldiers who desert the field when they return to Russia. It comes after furious soldiers warned they will rise up against Vladimir Putin.

This evening, Governor Dapo Abiodun paid a working visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) in his office where they had a productive discussion on how to effectively collaborate together.  Last year, the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS indicated interest to establish their presence at the State’s cargo airport, which is currently undergoing construction with the first phase to be ready for commissioning before the end of this year. LAGOS HEAD OF SERVICE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF PERMANENT SECRETARIES The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has announced the appointment of Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu as Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) with immediate effect. A statement signed by Muri-Okunola stated that Governor Babajide Olusola-Sanwo-Olu approved the appointment taking cognisance of the appointee's track records, outstanding performance, diligence, commitment and selfless service to Lagos State.  Muri-Okunola also said that Ms. Oyinade Nathan-Marsh was appointed as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, while Mrs. Adetutu Oluremi Ososanya assumed duty as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives in February. While wishing the three appointees a most rewarding and impactful tenure in office, the HoS noted that the dates for the swearing-in ceremony will be announced in due course.

Onitsha residents were full of joy as the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo made a tour of some critical areas within Onitsha metropolis. Governor Soludo after touring Okpoko stormed Onitsha, visiting Ngene Canal, Creek road, Fegge, Bida Road and Main Market where he addressed the residents and traders. On sighting the Governor, the people began jubilation. Speaking to the ABS, Mr Timothy Adiele expressed great optimism that Governor Soludo will put smile on the faces of the poor masses. He encouraged the Governor to sustain the tempo, noting that Ndi Anambra will support him. For another resident, Mr Obinna Udemezue, the Governor's early moves is in line with the expectations Ndị Anambra had of him which made them to give him massive support during the election irrespective of the security challenges. EFCC Arraigns Dubai- bound Traveler for Under-declaration of Foreign Currency The EFCC, on Thursday, March 17, 2022, arraigned Okeke Ugochukwu  Onyedikachukwu before Justice I.M Buba of the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu,  Enugu State on one count charge bordering on under declaration of foreign currency.   Specifically, Onyedikachukwu, while on a trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on March 9, 2020, declared to the Customs officials at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, that he had in his possession the sum of $54,600 (Fifty-Four Thousand, Six Hundred Dollars) only,   while he actually had in his possession alongside the declared fund, the sum of £12,000 (Twelve Thousand Pounds Sterling).  More photos below.
