 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. Opara commended MACBAN for its readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting peace and security in Taraba.       Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom reassures the Igbo Community and other Nigerians doing business in the state that the current massive onslaught against criminals is yielding results and cases of kidnapping will soon become history.       Nigeria has expressed readiness to partner Britain   in tackling unemployment in the country, through job creation. The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo,  SAN , stated this, when he received in audience, the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Abuja, Dominic Williams, MBE. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation”, he said. LAGOS ORDERS REMOVAL OF PROPERTY ON DRAINAGE RIGHT OF WAY.#PRESS RELEASE.

        Lagos State Government on Friday ordered property owners who have built on the Right of Way of various drainage channels to remove them immediately or have them removed by agents of the government. In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drainage and Water Resources, Engineer Joe Igbokwe, the State government warned that the efforts at ensuring freeflow of water are being hampered by the activities of several individuals who have built across drainage channels, thus causing flooding. He cited the specific example of Bayo Osinowo Street, near China Town Unit System, as one of such instances of flagrant disregard for the State Drainage Masterplan, stressing that all the structures along that corridor are illegal and obstruct the free flow of water in the China Town Drainage system. COURT RULES LAGOS HOTEL OCCUPANCY,RESTAURANT CONSUMPTION TAX LAW AS CONSTITUTIONAL.#PRESS RELEASE.

      A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday declared the Lagos State Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Tax Law and Regulation as constitutional, valid and operative. Justice Rilwanu Aikawa gave the ruling while delivering judgment in Suit No. FHC/L/CS/360/18 between the Registered Trustees of Hotel Owners and Managers Association vs. the Attorney General of Lagos State & Anor. According to Judge Aikawa, Lagos State is the only constitutional and lawful body permitted to assess, impose and collect tax from customers for goods and services consumed in hotels, restaurants and event centres in the State. He, therefore, invalidated sections 1, 2, 4, 5 and 12 of the Value Added Tax Act for being inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.         Rapheal Onwugbolu has bagged two years jail term for internet fraud. The conviction followed his prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on two counts bordering on cybercrime. . One of the charges reads: “That you, Raphael Ifedora Onwugbolu (a.k.a Jeffrey Hanks) sometime in 2006 at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, fraudulently impersonated one Jeffrey Hanks, an American medical doctor based in South Africa, with intent to obtain property to wit: the sum of $5,000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) from one Maria Sandas, an American resident, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Act.” . .        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office has arraigned Jonah Ekpone Chijor before Justice E.A Obile of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a two- count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same   Act. One of the counts read: "That you Jonah Ekpone Chijor, Fragracons Limited sometimes between September 2014 and September 2015 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: obtaining by false pretence and thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 8 (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act."
