 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. A Nigerian man, Nnanna Emeka, is on the run after he allegedly killed his 4-month-old pregnant in Ugbele Mgbidi area of Imo State. EFCC SECURES CONVICTION OF EX-GOMBE LANDS MINISTRY'S STAFF OVER LAND SCAM.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE

The Gombe Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on July 5, 2021 secured the conviction of two former staff of Gombe State Ministry of Lands and Survey, Yahaya Umaru Waja and Muhammed Manga, who were sentenced to nine years imprisonment each on four of the five-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and cheating, by Justice Fatima Musa of the Gombe State High Court, Gombe. The duo used forged land documents to obtain the sum of N340, 000 (Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira Only) from the complainant in the case. The offence is contrary to Sections 362,366, 320 and punishable under Sections 322, 364 and 322 of the Penal Code. Upon arraignment today, Waja and Manga pleaded guilty and were subsequently convicted by Court. Justice Musa, however offered them an option of fine of N110, 000 (One Hundred and Ten Thousand) each. My lawyers have informed me of the judgment by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the case of Folakemi Adeosun v The Attorney General of the Federation (FHC/ABJ/CS/303/2021) in which the court, presided over by Honourable Justice Taiwo Taiwo, ruled that the constitution does not require me to present my first-degree certificate or any other certificate, including the NYSC certificate, to be appointed a Minister. More importantly, he also ruled that I was not eligible to perform NYSC by virtue of the constitution. This is the position I have always maintained and am happy for this official clarification. The ruling vindicates me after a very traumatic spell. It is, however, not only a personal victory; it’s also a victory for many Nigerians in the Diaspora under similar conditions who are desirous to serve their country. Abuja Court passes judgment on Kemi Adeosun’s NYSC certificate A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday said that the former Finance Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun did not need the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) discharge certificate to take up any ministerial appointment or before standing for any elective office in the country. The court held that Adeosun who graduated in a London University in 1989 was already 36 years of age, therefore, exempted from participating in the NYSC scheme. Delivering judgment in a suit, Justice Taiwo Oladipupo Taiwo, held that Adeosun from available facts was a United Kingdom citizen having been born in the UK in 1967 and remained there till 2003 when she came back to Nigeria. Justice Taiwo held that Adeosun became a Nigerian citizen by virtue of the 1999 Constitution which came into force on May 29 of the year, therefore, the NYSC Act will have no effect on her. Magistrate Bolanle Adeola of Court VIII sitting at Ogba, on Tuesday, sentenced one Sekinat Oluwakemi Raji, a traveller from India to 14 days Community Service for flouting the Coronavirus Pandemic Law 2021 of the State. According to the Chief State Counsel of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Benedicta Shokoya, the judgement was sequel to the arraignment of the defendant by the Directorate on behalf of the State Government on a two-count charge. She said the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges of flouting the COVID-19 Law, which stipulates that a traveller into the State must self-isolate for seven days, adding that the two-count charge of breaking out of confinement and constituting a nuisance to the public are contrary to Section 17(2) of the Coroner Pandemic Emergency Law 2021 and Section 6(m) of the Public Health Law of Lagos State 2015 respectively.  In her words, “The defendant, Sekinat Oluwakemi Raji, with Passport Number B00166532 ...

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is set to conduct major enforcement operations at FESTAC axis of Lagos over the next few weeks, in a bid to stem the activities of cart-pushers, which has left the environment in a deplorable condition. Abuja Hair Stylist Convicted of Juju Scam Justice A.O. Musa of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja today July 7, 2021 convicted and sentenced one Energy Dennis, a hair stylist, to five months imprisonment for obtaining $110 from an American by false pretence. Dennis (a.k.a Baba Dayo),  falsely represented himself as a spiritualist (Babalawo) and obatined the sum of $100 (One Hundred United States Dollars) from  one Monica of the United States of America. The offence is contrary to Section 320 (a) of Penal Code laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same law. Upon arraignment, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, the prosecution reviewed the facts of the case, leading to the conviction of the defendant by the Court, which however gave him the option of N20,000 fine. In addition to his sentence, the court also ordered that the money recovered be returned to the victim.
