 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor.  Poultry farmers lament low egg consumption, blame greedy retailers The Poultry Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, has attributed the reduced patronage of eggs to low purchasing power, greedy retailers, and low consumption. The PAN Lagos Chairman, Mojeed Iyiola, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.  U.S. shuts Abuja Embassy, Lagos Consulate Office The United States Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. The Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday held annually on the last Monday in May. The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the closure via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the day is set aside to honour American military personnel who died while serving their country. Memorial Day is a solemn occasion in the United States, marked by ceremonies, flag displays, and tributes to fallen servicemen and women. The closure affects all routine consular services at both the embassy and the consulate for the day. Operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27. The U.S. Mission advised individuals with urgent consular needs to consult its website for emergency contact information.

 Osimhen agrees three-year deal with Al-Hilal Premier League clubs, Chelsea and Manchester United, are set to miss out on signing Victor Osimhen as the Nigeria international has agreed a move to Al-Hilal. Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli last year after failing to join Chelsea in the closing stages of the transfer window. The 26-year-old, who has also been linked with Man United, has enjoyed a successful season in Turkey. However, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh, Osimhen has now agreed a three-year contract to join Al-Hilal this summer. The report added that the Saudi Pro League club want to have the former Lille star in their squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which starts next month.  Slain final-year varsity student, Emmanuella Ahenjir buried in Benue Emmanuella Ahenjir, the 23-year-old final-year student of Federal University Wukari who was allegedly shot and killed by a police officer during a stop-and-search operation in Makurdi, has been laid to rest in her hometown in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.  Ahenjir was killed on May 16, 2025, near the Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi after police officers reportedly opened fire on a vehicle she was travelling in. Eyewitnesses alleged that the officers shot at the car after the driver failed to immediately comply with their stop signal. A bullet struck Emmanuella, who later died from her injuries at a nearby hospital. Her death sparked outrage across the state and beyond, prompting peaceful protests in Makurdi.  25.05.25 Russia has targeted Ukraine with drones and missiles, killing at least 12 people, 60 people were injured. Ukraine’s air force said on Sunday that Russian forces attacked Ukrainian regions with 298 drones and 69 missiles overnight, one of the largest aerial attacks of the war. Most regions of Ukraine were affected by the hostile attack. Enemy air strikes were recorded in 22 areas, and downed cruise missiles and attack UAVs (drones) fell in 15 locations. The country’s emergency service reported that three children – aged eight, 12 and 17 – were killed in the region of Zhytomyr, while another person was killed in the southern city of Mykolaiv.  Uganda suspends military cooperation with Germany  The Ugandan military said Sunday that it has suspended all defense and military cooperation with Germany over the latter's conduct in the East African country, Xinhua reported. Chris Magezi, Ugandan military spokesperson, said in a statement issued here that the decision is in response to credible intelligence reports that German Ambassador to Uganda Mathias Schauer is actively engaged in subversive activities in the country. "The suspension will remain in force until the full resolution of the matter of the ambassador's involvement with hostile pseudo-political-military forces operating in the country against the Ugandan government," Magezi said. Several opposition politicians and supporters have been arrested in Uganda over reports that they are involved in subversive activities.  Four Killed as Coach from Zimbabwe to Cape Town Overturns on N1 A long-distance coach travelling from Zimbabwe to Cape Town overturned on the N1 road between Murraysburg and Colesburg, claiming the lives of four people on Sunday, 25 May 2025. The bus was carrying 53 occupants when the accident occurred. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene to assist the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. The names of the deceased have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
