 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. Opara commended MACBAN for its readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting peace and security in Taraba.   ICPC Arrests Woman Offering New Naira Notes for Sale The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has today, 1st of February 2023, arrested a woman, Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, with the Twitter handle of Lala, offering new naira notes for sale on social media. The arrest was as a result of intelligence received which led the ICPC operatives to seek out and promptly arrest the suspect. Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, a social media “serial entrepreneur” who deals in skincare, sales of fuel, facilitation of foreign travels through visa acquisitions, and other businesses, seized the opportunity of the scarcity of the new naira notes to openly market the new notes. It is believed she is in collusion with key elements in the financial services sector diverting the newly released notes away from banking halls and payment channels into a “ black market” She is currently in ICPC detention and is helping the Commission with its findings on the criminal ...

CBN Shouldn’t Extend Naira Swap Deadline – Atiku The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, asked the Central Bank of Nigeria not to grant a further extension after February 10 deadline for naira swap. This, he said, had become imperative to ensure the purpose and objective of initiating the redesigning of the currency are not destroyed. In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday from his campaign office, Atiku urged the CBN to immediately review the measures it has put in place for ensuring the seamless circulation of the new naira notes. “The additional ten days will enable our people in the rural areas and ordinary people across the country to take the naira in their possession into the banks. ISWAP Distributes Old Naira Notes To Passengers On Borno Highway Suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have distributed huge amounts of old notes to scores of commuters in the Lake Chad Basin ahead of the deadline of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy, sources have said. Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred after Mairari village, along the Maiduguri/Monguno highway on Saturday in Guzamala LGA of Borno State. A source told the Daily Trust in Maiduguri that the ISWAP members were dressed in military camouflage and drove two gun trucks. Nigeria’s Judicial System Pathetic, Sides With Crooks –El-Rufai The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir Elrufai, has described the Nigerian judiciary system as a “pathetic system” that sides more with the crooks than the innocents. Mr Elrufai said this during an interview on Sunrise Daily on Channels TV on Wednesday. He noted that the government of Kaduna State has not been able to convict people that stole state funds because courts are making it difficult to convict people. “In Kaduna State, the corruption perception is much lower than in other states. We have taken measures. We have made examples of people in public service. We have sacked those that were found to be fiddling with public funds. We are prosecuting them, we have not convicted anybody because the judicial system is just pathetic—is too slow and in my view often on the side of the crooks rather than on the side of the government or the innocents,” he said. OCHA Brigade Arrest Ten for Extortion, Illegal Revenue Collection in Onitsha. Operatives of Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has arrested ten persons suspected to engage in extortion and illegal revenue collection in different parts of Onitsha Metropolis.  Their arrest followed the order by the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere after receiving complaints from transporters, unions and associations on the extortion activities of the suspects.  Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mr. Anthony Agbaefune said the arrests were in line with the plan of the state government to rid the state of touting activities. The arrested persons are feanyi Ugbo, Amechi Anioke, Agu Ekor, Peter Joseph, Chidozie Okafor, Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, Nzube Nwaego, Dr. Makandu Eze, Nnamdi Ifechukwu, Chika Okafor and Chika Okafor.  They, individually, pleaded for mercy, promising to turn a new leaf. The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had, on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, re-arraigned Fayose and  Spotless Investment Limited on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9bn ( Six Billion Nine Hundred Naira). The defendants had first been arraigned on October 22, 2018 before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun. Gunmen attack INEC office, police station, residential building in Anambra Gunmen early Wednesday morning attacked the office of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports. A source said the hoodlums burnt the commission’s headquarters in the area, using improvised explosive devise (IED). The gunmen also attacked a Police Station in Nnobi, in the same local government area, and a residential building inside the station, where they killed a boy, and injured a girl. The level of damage in the police station was however not ascertained as at the time of going to press.
