 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. 5 PERSONS CRUSHED TO DEATH IN A FATAL ACCIDENT ALONG TOMBIA-AMASSOMA ROAD,LEADING TO THE NEWLY OPENED BAYELSA STATE AIRPORT.{PHOTOS}.

Five persons have been crushed to death in a fatal accident along Tombia-Amassoma road, leading to the newly opened Bayelsa State Airport. The accident which happened on Thursday evening, August 19, was said to have involved a Venza car and two tricycles heading towards Amassoma community. According to an eyewitness, Mr Stephen Jones, the driver of the Venza lost the control as a result of the downpour and rammed into two oncoming tricycles, leading to the death of five passengers with others injured. He said that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had evacuated the corpses and deposited them at a mortuary in Yenagoa, while the injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment. However, an official of the Bayelsa State Command of the FRSC, who did not want his name mentioned, said the accident occurred due to speeding by the Venza driver. The Lagos State Police Command has again arrested two male suspects, Desmond Ikechukwu Okafor (21) and Egwuonwu Gift Iyke (34) who allegedly conspired together and kidnapped an 8-year-old child, Daniel Chukwudi, on 11th July, 2021. A statement released on Saturday August 21 by the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, says the kidnap was planned and executed by the victim's neighbour, Desmond Okechukwu Okorafor who, using his unhindered access to the family, lured the victim from his parents' home at Aboru, Ipaja, and adopted him to Ajangbadi area of Lagos where he was kept in custody for six days before he was rescued.  ''Twenty -four hours after the evil act, the suspects reached out to the victim's parents and demanded 2.5m Naira ransom as a condition for his release from captivity or else he would be killed.  Following report by the distraught parents, operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau began a painstaking, diligent investiga...

The Suspect was on Motorcycle while A Private Honda accord Car was following the Suspect not knowing that the Fulani Bandit Carry Ammunition's. It was a Case of Accident but the Accident was not that serious. However at the Scene of the Accident, Youths Notice Ammunitions inside a Sack. Nigerian Army troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI have arrested one Yusuf Saleh, a suspected Boko Haram Urea Fertilizer supplier at Bayamari village in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State. The suspect was nabbed by the vigilant troops following actionable information. A total of thirty eight 50 Kg bags of Urea were recovered from the suspect. Urea fertilizer was banned by Government because of its usage in the manufacturing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) by terrorists. The suspect is currently helping  investigators with useful information. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been commended for their vigilance and swift response in arresting the suspect.
