 Tanzanian rights activist 'kidnapped' in Kenya Renowned Tanzanian rights activist Maria Sarungi Tsehai was kidnapped on the streets of the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Sunday, Amnesty International and her organisation said. Tsehai campaigns for political change, freedom of expression and women's rights in Tanzania and has 1.3 million followers on X, AFP reported. Amnesty's Kenya branch said she was "kidnapped by three armed men in a black (Toyota) Noah" around 3:00 pm in the Kilimani area of central Nairobi. Tsehai's movement, Change Tanzania, wrote on X: "We believe her abductors are part of Tanzania security agents operating beyond Tanzania borders to silence... legitimate criticism." American rapper and YouTuber, Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., better known as DDG, has stated that he might have to relocate to Lagos State. DDG made this known while expressing uncertainty about continuing to live in the United States. In a viral post on his X handle, the rapper hinted at his possible relocation to London or the Lagos part of Nigeria. Expressing dissatisfaction with life in America, the singer noted that the current state of the US has made it less appealing to him. “America lowkey not it no more ngl.   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has proposed the sum of N126 billion for its 2025 budget. The Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation while defending the 2024 budget implementation before the National Assembly on Friday. He pleaded with the National Assembly to approve the 2025 budget which is nearly three times the size approved last year. Prof Mahmood Yakubu expressed concerns over the high cost of conducting elections in Nigeria, describing it as exorbitant and burdensome. He highlighted that despite INEC being one of the largest employers in the country, it operated on a reduced budget of N40 billion last year, significantly lower than the N80 billion initially requested. He emphasized the financial strain this has placed on the commission’s ability to carry out its responsibilities effectively. A Retired Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, has accused the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) of not treating petitions against senior and powerful lawyers.  A 64-year-old Pittsburgh women paid two children to shovel drive before giving them booze and assaulting them. Police received a call from Rochelle Stewart who reported a burglary in progress at her residence. Once on scene, police discovered a shocking crime that had nothing to do with burglary. As police arrived on scene, Stewart claimed she had never made a call to report a burglary. While  at the residence, police made contact with a 12-year-old boy and his 13-year-old friend who were obviously intoxicated.  The boys were speaking in a nonsensical manner, however as police spoke to the boys, a sordid tale eventually came out. The two boys said they had been walking down the street when Stewart approached them. She offered the boys 5 dollars each to shovel her driveway.  Yem Kem’s Wife Dies Three Days After 55th Birthday Dr. Akintunde Ayeni, founder and CEO of Yem-Kem International has lost his beloved wife, Erelu Anthonia Abiodun Ayeni. She passed away on Monday, 6 January, 2025, three days after her 55th birthday The sad occurrence comes five months after the Ayeni family had the wedding of their son, Christopher, to Adeola Boye in a colourful ceremony at Hyde Park, Lagos. Though details surrounding Erelu Abiodun Ayeni’s demise are not made public, eminent Nigerians and friends of the Ayenis have been extending condolences to the family. On Wednesday, 8 January, 2025, the Governor of Ekiti state, Abiodun Oyebanji paid a condolence visit to the Lagos home of the Ayenis where he sympathized with the bereaved Yem-Kem boss.  Oborevweri sacks Information Commissioner Delta Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevweri, has sacked the state’s Information Commissioner, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, The Nation has learnt. It is not immediately clear why Osuoza was sacked. But Director General, Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communication, Dr. Fred Latimor Oghenesivbe, said: “the former Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza had been briefed already of the state of affairs.” A source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Governor Oborevwori directed the Commissioner for Works (Rural roads) Charles Aniagwu to take over the affairs of the Ministry of Information temporarily.  Tragedy has struck in Fleurhof, where a pregnant woman and her mother were found shot dead in an open field. The two had been walking from Dobsonville to Fleurhof but never reached their destination, falling victim to unknown gunmen.  The motive behind the brutal killing is still unclear, and authorities are investigating the incident.

 ICYMI: A devastating night on Eastern Cape roads has claimed the lives of 10 people  The most tragic incident happened on the N2 near Phakade, between eMaXesibeni and Kokstad, where a head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck resulted in eight fatalities on Friday, January 10.  The bakkie was carrying 12 people, and the accident claimed the lives of five people at the scene, while three others died en route to the hospital. The bakkie driver was among the deceased, while the truck driver escaped unharmed. One more photo below.

 American Returnee Leads Robbery, Kills Lagos Uber Driver The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old US returnee, David Segun, and two others for allegedly killing an Uber driver in the Obalende area of Lagos State. The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the state command headquarters on Saturday. Olanrewaju disclosed that Segun and his friends, Emeka Akwara (19) Samuel Ariori (21) and Lukman Ariori (19) ordered an Uber ride from Chevron in Lekki to Obalende at midnight on Thursday, January 9. The Central African country in late November abruptly ended military cooperation with its former colonial ruler, and French troops began leaving the country in late December. Around 100 troops left the Abeche base on Saturday, after equipment convoys departed on Friday evening. The French army had around 1,000 personnel in Chad. The Divisional Police Officer of Warewa has successfully rescued Ahmed Owolabi from bleeding to death, who until now did not provoke his passenger neither was able to say the reason behind such callousness to have resulted in such  a deep cut. On January 11, 2025, at about 4:15 PM, Alani Muritala, a resident of Shefu Elede Ibafo, came to the police station to report that his brother, Ahmed Owolabi, a 27-year-old motorcyclist from Onimane Magada Ibafo, had been injured by Sherif Oyeniyi, who lives at 44 Association Road, Orange Estate, Voera, Arepo, Ogun State.   Department of State Services has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, identified as Augustus, for cloning its official website and posting a fake recruitment notice. The suspect, from Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak. According to DSS sources, Augustus, a graduate of the University of Uyo and a content creator, cloned the agency’s website to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians into believing the DSS was conducting a recruitment exercise. “Augustus, a native of Abak L ocal Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, was tracked and arrested by our operatives on Thursday at his residence. “He claimed to be a graduate of the University of Uyo, a blogger, and a content creator.
