 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  Akwa Ibom Governor Dissolves All Statutory and Non-Statutory Boards, Commissions Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state with immediate effect, according to an announcement made on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwah, in Uyo, the state capital. The decision, enacted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, was communicated by Uwah, who directed chairpersons of the affected agencies to hand over all government property in their custody to the most senior officer in their respective establishments. Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Apo, Abuja, on a one-count charge of criminal breach of trust to the tune of N240,500,000 (Two Hundred and Forty Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira).  EFCC Arrests 42 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Gashua Operatives of the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 42 suspected internet fraudsters in Gashua Local Government Area of Yobe State. They were arrested in a sting operation on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at different locations within Gashua, following credible intelligence on their involvement in computer-related crimes. Items recovered from them include seven  motorcycles, one Mercedes Benz car, fifty-five (55) phones and laptops, as well as playstation 5 (PS5) and playstation 4 (PS4) consoles respectively. Intelligence available to the Commission linked the suspects with various forms of internet-related fraud. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. More photos below.

The Agency's warning is coming as a result of discharge of  water from Kainji, Shiroro, Zungeru and Jebba hydro Dams located in Niger state. A statement by the Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba Arah indicate that the Dams are releasing thousands of gallons of water per minute that could lead to the overflow of these Rivers. Tennessee court sets execution date for the state’s only woman on death row and 3 male inmates The Tennessee Supreme Court on Tuesday set execution dates for four people, including the only woman in the state on death row. Christa Pike received the death sentence at age 18 for the 1995 torture slaying of Colleen Slemmer, who was a fellow Knoxville Job Corps student. Slemmer, 18, was stabbed and beaten by Pike and Tadaryl Shipp, Pike’s boyfriend at the time, on the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural campus. They carved a pentagram into Slemmer’s chest, and investigators claimed Pike took a piece of the victim’s skull for a souvenir. Shipp, of Memphis, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Pike was also convicted in 2004 for trying to strangle a fellow inmate during a prison fight, which added 25 years to her sentence.  Edo plans revenue court to try tax evaders The Edo State Government has announced plans to establish a revenue court that will specifically handle cases of tax evasion and other revenue-related offences. The move was disclosed at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Edo State Inland Revenue Service in Benin on Tuesday, which brought together top government officials and representatives of ministries, departments, and agencies.  Nigeria Immigration Service begins crackdown on foreigners with expired visas The Nigeria Immigration Service has commenced a nationwide crackdown on foreign nationals who have overstayed their visas or breached entry conditions, following the expiration of a three-month amnesty granted by the Federal Government. The amnesty, which opened on July 5 and lapsed at midnight on September 30, allowed foreigners with irregular immigration status to regularise their stay without penalties. “With the expiration of the amnesty period, effective October 1, 2025, enforcement actions will commence nationwide against foreign nationals who have overstayed their visa or violated their entry conditions,” NIS spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi, said in a statement on Wednesday.  National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons bust trafficking ring, rescues 24 victims at Abuja airport The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arrested five suspected human traffickers and rescued 24 victims in a major trafficking operation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The Director-General of the agency, Binta Adamu Bello, personally led the raid on Wednesday after receiving intelligence about the arrival of suspected traffickers and their victims at the airport. In a statement issued after the operation, NAPTIP’s spokesperson, Vincent Adekoye, revealed that a retired senior security officer, who is considered as a prominent member of the trafficking syndicate, was among those arrested. Fidelis Msughter Unongo, has settled the medical bills of victims of the recent army attack in Turan, Kwande Local Government Area. The victims, currently receiving treatment in a private hospital, are children aged 6, 10, and 17. Military personnel deployed to secure the community had alleged the victims were armed bandits in possession of rifles. However, local residents insist they were innocent children caught in the violence.

 NEMA confirms 24 rescued, 42 missing in Kogi boat mishap The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that 24 passengers were rescued from the Kogi boat mishap. In a post on Thursday, NEMA said 42 persons remained missing as search and rescue operations continue. According to the agency, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a boat carrying about 80 passengers capsized on the River Niger.  Over 35% of Nigerian children face malnutrition – NARD The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has said that over 35 per cent of Nigerian children under five years are affected by malnutrition, describing the menace as a critical public health challenge. In a post on X on Thursday, NARD said over 35 per cent of children under five are affected. “Malnutrition contributes significantly to child mortality. It also impacts cognitive development, disease susceptibility, and national productivity,” the association added. NARD stated that interventions include Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) distribution, community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling.  Court Dismisses Suit Against Rivers State Emergency Rule   Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit challenging the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The case was filed by Belema Briggs and four others, who sought to nullify President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation. However, Justice Omotosho ruled that the plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to bring the matter before the court. According to the judge, only the Supreme Court has the jurisdiction to determine such a case, and none of the plaintiffs were members of the state executive, legislature, or directly affected by the proclamation. The court also noted that the Attorney General’s approval was not obtained before instituting the suit.  ‘Ooni of Ife set me up with a woman’ – Oluwo alleges The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, of setting him up with a woman. This is coming amid the ongoing dispute between the two Yoruba royal fathers. Oluwo made the fresh allegation while reacting to the news of his suspension by the Ooni of Ife in a now trending Instagram video. Addressing Nigerians, Oluwo, who claimed to have helped Ogunwusi to ascend the throne, accused Ooni of attempting to kill him.  ‘I’m in danger of sudden death’ – Nnamdi Kanu lists ailments in DSS custody Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has revealed the illnesses he is battling with in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS. Kanu revealed that he is battling with Tinnitus and sleep deprivation, which he described as among the “gravest threats” to his survival. In a letter of complaint and appeal to the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Kanu said Tinnitus “exacerbates my hypertension”, puts him at the risk of stroke, collapse, and sudden death. He disclosed other diseases to include, liver, pancreas, kidney, bladder, prostate, and white matter disease; sleep apnea and most critically, tinnitus the constant internal “chirping” sound in his ears.  ‘She jumped from third floor in fear’ — FCT CP narrates how Arise TV presenter died Ajao Adewale, the commissioner of police in the federal capital territory (FCT), says Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, jumped out from a three-storey building during the armed robbery incident at her residence.  Somtochukwu, popularly known as Sommie, died in the early hours of Monday when armed robbers invaded her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, the country’s capital. Sommie and a private security guard attached to the residence lost their lives due to the armed robbery incident. Speaking during the Arise TV’s Morning Show, Adewale said after the gunmen shot one of the security guards during the incident, sparking panic among residents.  Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Donatus Illang, announced the arrest of over 88 proprietors and teachers for operating unapproved and illegal schools across the state. The crackdown follows an intensive inspection by the Ministry of Education, which identified numerous institutions failing to meet regulatory standards. These schools, described as substandard and lacking proper accreditation, have been ordered to cease operations immediately. Illang emphasized that the move is part of the state government’s commitment to ensuring quality education and safeguarding students from poorly managed institutions. "We cannot compromise on the future of our children," he stated during a press briefing in Abakaliki on October 2, 2025. "These illegal schools lack qualified teachers, adequate facilities, and approved curricula, which poses a significant risk to the education system."
