After years of upheaval following the Gaza war, residents say the renewed festivities offer a fragile but welcome sign of relief and resilience. Juka, who watched his family’s restaurant sit empty through two holiday seasons, described the moment simply: “It’s not like it was before the war, but it feels like life is coming back again.” Bethlehem’s identity and livelihood are deeply tied to tourism, with the majority of its residents depending on pilgrims and visitors to keep the local economy moving. When the war erupted after the Hamas-led attack on Israe...

U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut’s order, which is in effect pending further arguments, cited the relatively small scale of protests in the city and warned that allowing the deployment could infringe on Oregon’s state sovereignty. “This country has a longstanding tradition of resistance to government overreach, especially in the form of military intrusion into civil affairs,” Immergut wrote. “This is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law.” The Trump administration filed a notice of appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals late Saturday. Atiku said Tinubu attended a social event in Plateau instead of visiting victims and consoling communities ravaged by insecurity. He made this known in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday, describing Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State — one of the areas hardest hit by violent attacks — as a sad reflection of priorities and a mockery of leadership. According to him, it was regrettable that the President chose to visit Plateau State to attend a funeral event associated with the APC chairman rather than commiserate with victims of the persistent killings and displacement across the region. “With large swathes of the country still under siege from unrelen...
