Families of Boeing 737 Max crash victims urge court to reject DOJ deal Families who lost loved ones in two deadly Boeing 737 Max crashes are preparing for what may be their last opportunity to demand a criminal trial against the company. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Fort Worth will hear arguments on whether to dismiss a felony conspiracy charge accusing Boeing of misleading regulators about a flight-control system later tied to the crashes, which killed 346 people in Indonesia and Ethiopia between 2018 and 2019. Boeing initially agreed to plead guilty, but U.S. District Chief Judge Reed O’Connor rejected the plea last year, citing concerns about how an independent monitor would be selected. Speaking on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed dismissed a rebuttal from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, describing it as inadequate. “If the office of the NSA treats this matter lightly, then Nuhu Ribadu was never a policeman, nor is he a qualified lawyer. He should not be in that office,” Baba-Ahmed stated, insisting that El-Rufai should be summoned by the police and courts to substantiate his claims. El-Rufai had alleged that both the Federal Government and Kaduna State were paying monthly allowances and supplying food to bandits under what he termed a “kiss-the-bandits” policy. CANCER IS RAPIDLY EMERGING AS ONE OF INDIA’S BIGGEST HEALTH CHALLENGES, WITH NEW DATA SHOWING THAT NEARLY ONE IN EVERY 11 INDIANS IS AT RISK OF DEVELOPING THE DISEASE DURING THEIR LIFETIME.(PHOTO).

Image
Cancer is rapidly emerging as one of India’s biggest health challenges, with new data showing that nearly one in every 11 Indians is at risk of developing the disease during their lifetime. Between 2015 and 2019, India recorded 15.6 lakh new cancer cases in 2024 alone, with 8.74 lakh deaths. The study, covering 10–18% of the population across 23 states and UTs, revealed that while women accounted for slightly more cases (51.1%), their mortality rate (45%) was lower than men’s, largely due to early detection of breast and uterine cancers. Among men, oral cancer has now overtaken lung cancer as the most common type, driven by a combination of tobacco and rising alcohol consumption. Alarmingly, the Northeast continues to report the highest incidence rates, with cervical, lung, and oral cancers especially prevalent among women. Health experts warn that lifestyle risks and limited early detection remain key barriers to reducing the growing cancer burden.

Image
Gun rights group challenges Colorado’s upcoming assault rifle restrictions A gun rights group on Tuesday filed a lawsuit challenging Colorado’s new restrictions on assault rifles, which require prospective buyers to complete a safety course before purchasing rapid-fire firearms. The Colorado State Shooting Association, joined by six individuals, is suing Governor Jared Polis and Attorney General Philip Weiser over Senate Bill 25-3, formally titled “Concerning the Prohibition of Certain Semiautomatic Firearms and Rapid-Fire Devices.” The plaintiffs argue that the law infringes on Second Amendment rights and lacks any historical precedent to justify the restrictions. The law, passed largely along party lines by Democrats earlier this year, defines the targeted weapons as semiautomatic rifles or shotguns with detachable magazines, and gas-operated semiautomatic handguns with detachable magazines. Starting August 1, 2026, Coloradans seeking to purchase these firearms must pass a backg...

HARRY AND MEGHAN OPEN TO RETURNING TO ROYAL DUTIES. (PHOTO).

Image
Harry and Meghan open to returning to royal duties, report says Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, may consider returning to royal duties, according to cultural commentator Kristen Meinzer. Meinzer, who spoke to the Daily Express UK, said that stepping back from their senior royal roles was never Harry’s original intention. “Harry has repeatedly said that it was never his intention to completely surrender his senior royal duties,” she explained. She added that ideally, Harry and Meghan would have been able to pursue passion projects while still serving the crown, similar to Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. Meinzer criticized the late Queen Elizabeth II’s decision to allow the couple to leave their royal responsibilities entirely, noting that the institution did not adequately address the racism Meghan faced. “The queen did not grant Harry and Meghan the same opportunity, nor did the institution treat the racism Meghan faced with the seriousness it warran...

The 2023 World Malaria Report estimated around 200,000 malaria deaths in the country that year. Children under five remain the most vulnerable, with about 80 percent of malaria deaths in 2022 occurring within this age group, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking at the launch of the Care365 Health Hub in Abuja, Obasanjo said it was unacceptable that, in an era driven by artificial intelligence, a Nigerian child could still die of malaria simply because her mother could not afford the trip to the nearest health facility.
