 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  Kemi Badenoch has promised a US-style immigration crackdown, threatening to deport 150,000 migrants from the UK annually.  The Tory leader's plan would see the creation of a “Removals Force”, modelled on the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.  The Conservative said the new force would replace the existing Home Office Immigration Enforcement unit and would be given double the funding to £1.6 billion every year from £820m.  “Its mandate will be relentlessly to focus on increasing the number of removals from 34,000 to 150,000 a year, representing at least 750,000 removals across a parliament,” Badenoch said while addressing the Conservatives conference.  “They don’t belong here. They are committing crimes. They are hurting people. I’m tired of us asking irrelevant questions about where they should go.  Fire outbreak at Rivers state Secretariat A section of the Rivers State Secretariat complex, specifically the Podium Block, was engulfed in flames today October 6. Videos recorded from the scene showed thick smoke billowing from the building, causing panic among workers and evacuations in the area. The Podium Block houses several state ministries, including sections for works and social welfare.  The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The state government is yet to comment on the fire outbreak. Watch video below.

 One Killed, Another Injured in Senwabarwana Shooting, Police Launch Manhunt The Police in Senwabarwana, under the Capricorn District, have launched a manhunt for suspects following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of one man and the injury of another at Senwabarwana Park on Thursday, 02 October 2025, at around 21:15. According to a police report, officers responded to a complaint of murder at the park and, upon arrival, discovered the body of a 24-year-old man lying in a supine position with a gunshot wound to the upper body. A second victim, aged 22, was later found at a local hospital with gunshot wounds to both the upper and lower body. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the suspects are still at large. Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact Sergeant Phineas Magwele on 076 236 4689.

 Alexandra Businessman and Community Leader Shot Dead Tragic news has rocked Alexandra this morning following the fatal shooting of well-known businessman and Alexandra Parliament President, Vincent “Vinny” Ndima, who was gunned down in the early hours of the morning. According to reports, Ndima was travelling with his friend, Thabo Mahane, when their vehicle came under heavy gunfire at the corner of 13th Avenue and Joe Nhlanhla Street. Eyewitnesses say the pair were ambushed by heavily armed men, with nearly 40 spent cartridges recovered from the scene. Mahane, who sustained serious injuries, reportedly returned fire before the gunmen fled. Ndima was declared dead at the scene, while Mahane remains in critical condition in hospital. The DRC, which accounts for about 70% of global cobalt output, halted exports in February after prices of the critical electric battery metal hit a nine-year low. A quota system based on historical exports will replace an earlier export ban on October 16, Congo's state minerals regulator ARECOMS said in September. Miners will be allowed to ship up to 18,125 metric tonnes of cobalt for the rest of 2025, with annual caps of 96,600 tonnes in 2026 and 2027.  ICC convicts Sudan militia chief Ali Kushayb for crimes against humanity The International Criminal Court on Monday convicted a feared Sudanese militia chief for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during brutal attacks in Darfur, Anadolu Agency reports. Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, also known by the nom de guerre Ali Kushayb, was convicted of multiple crimes including rape, murder and torture carried out between August 2003 and at least April 2004. The ICC’s investigation found that Kushayb led coordinated assaults against civilians during the height of Darfur’s conflict, which left hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced. He was transferred to ICC custody on 9 June 2020 after surrendering voluntarily in the Central African Republic, and made his initial court appearance on 15 June 2020. Ike Turner Jr., son of Tina and Ike Turner, dies at 67 Ike Turner Jr., the son of music legends Tina and Ike Turner, has died at the age of 67. According to family members, he passed away Saturday at a Los Angeles hospital from kidney failure. He had faced longstanding heart problems and had recently suffered a stroke in early September, with his health declining over time. Born in 1958 to Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, Ike Jr. was adopted by Tina Turner early in life and grew up amid his parents’ high-profile music careers. After Tina and Ike Sr. divorced, Ike Jr. briefly worked as her sound engineer. One of four children associated with the Turners’ iconic partnership, he largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years while remaining connected to his parents’ musical legacy. Ike Turner Sr. died in 2007, and Tina Turner passed away in 2023.

 OKE-IRA SENIOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL EMERGES WINNER AT  ENVIRONMENTAL COMPETITION  .... As LASEPA, EARTHPLUS Nurtures Green Minds At Inter-School Environmental Competition Oke-Ira Senior Grammar School in the Education District VI of Lagos State has emerged the overall winner of the Year 2025 INTER- SECONDARY School Environmental competition organised by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in partnership with the  Earthplus Environmental Sustainability Network. 10 schools from both public and private  eventually got to the finals of the keenly contested competition, which has the theme: “Solutions for a Viable Environment: Towards a Future with Zero Plastic Pollution”.  IBB builds hospital for grandfather’s community in Kano …facility to be dedicated to late wife Maryam, IBB’s parents Former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has remembered his ancestral root in Kumurya village, Bunkure local government area of Kano State, where his grandfather was born. Babangida’s grandfather, Malam Ibrahim, was born and raised in Kumurya village under Rano emirate before he relocated to Wushishi, Niger State, as a trader. Upon leaving office as Military Head of State in 1993, Babangida realised he did not bequeath an impressionistic tangible legacy for the Kumurya community.  He however, vowed he must build a project for them before he departs the planet earth.  Court rejects Minister’s bid to stop UNN from releasing his academic records A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a request by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, seeking to stop the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from releasing his academic records. Justice Hausa Yilwa, in a ruling delivered on September 22, dismissed Nnaji’s request for an injunction, according to a Certified True Copy of the judgment sighted by our correspondent on Sunday. Through an ex parte motion, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, Nnaji asked the court to restrain the university from releasing or tampering with his academic records. He also asked the court to compel the university and its officials to release his academic transcript. After listening to arguments from his counsel, the court examined the supporting affidavits and written submissions.
