 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Mob Beats Lagos Policeman Unconscious For Pushing Man Into BRT Lane A mob beat a yet-to-be-identified policeman to a stupor after a man identified simply as Yusuf was rammed by a BRT vegicle from the impact of being allegedly pushed by policemen in the Ketu area of Lagos State. It is gathered from eyewitnesses at the scene that the policeman and his colleagues were attempting to dispossess Yusuf of his vehicle when he got pushed into the BRT lane. In the process, one of the BRT buses plying the lane inward Lagos rammed into Yusuf who collapsed due to the impact of the crash. No plot to impeach Deputy Governor--- Obaseki Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has stated that there is no plan to impeach his Deputy Comrade Philip Shaibu. Natives feared dead as illegal fuel dump explodes in Rivers An unspecified number of people has been reported dead following an explosion that occurred at an illegal fuel dump in Okari Jetty in Okirika Local Government Area in Rivers State. It was gathered there had been efforts by some influential persons to suppress the incident that occurred on Monday night, July 31st. Though some sources said 16 persons were feared dead during the incident, others said only two fishermen lost their lives in the process. An activist, who spoke in confidence, explained that some residents came out to scoop fuel from a barge discharging fuel at a depot owned by the Port Harcourt refinery. How removal of fuel subsidy pushed me into robbing passengers- Lagos e-hailing driver.  A 29-year-old Lagos State e-hailing driver and accounting graduate, Adeniran Jerimiah, was arrested for robbing a female passenger. Jerimiah was arrested in a shop in the Ikotun area of the state while trying to purchase an item. He was recognised by one of his former victims who was in the same shop at that particular time and alerted the public. He claimed the hike in fuel price as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy pushed him into robbing.

 Ondo police detectives arrest photographer with human parts Police detectives in Ondo state, have arrested a 26 year old photographer, Franklin Akinyosuyi, suspected to be a ‘yahoo boy’ for being in possession of human parts. Akinyosuyi, who owns a boutique, was arrested in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West local government area of Ondo State. Our correspondent gathered that as the head of a human was discovered in a sack inside the room of the suspect in a rented apartment in the area. It was learnt that the children of the landlord of the apartment who discovered the human part raised the alarm and police detectives were invited. A search by the police detectives, it was gathered resulted in the discovery of human parts and other items suspected to charm,.and human blood. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has filed a fresh suit against President Bola Tinubu, in the US. Disclosing this to newsmen, the Special Assistant on Public communications to Atiku, Phrank Shaibu, in a statement released, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, withdrew the case against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, in the United States of America because he filed a fresh case against the President in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.   The Circuit Court of Cook County had dismissed Atiku’s lawsuit seeking to get access to Tinubu’s educational records at the Chicago State University.
