APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. The Commissioner, who gave the indication at the end of the crunch meeting of ECOWAS Chiefs of defense staff in Accra – Ghana, affirmed that the planning mission which started since the second of August has ended, and that various states are ready with accompaniment of the intervention which include strategic based capacity; strategic objectives, required equipment and commitment of member states which is very encouraging are ready. We Have No Intention To Impose Any Traditional Ruler On Any Community -Soludo Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says his administration is not interested in imposing any traditional ruler on any community in the state. Governor Soludo stated this at the Government House, Awka while presenting certificates of recognition to traditional rulers of four communities in the state. The Traditional Rulers include Igwe Alexander Azike of Igbo-ukwu, Igwe Mkpuorah Ngini of Isuanaocha, Eze Augustine Nwangwu of Ajalli and Igwe Ikechukwu Ezeofor of Umuona.  The Governor stated that the traditional rulers were popularly elected in their communities in accordance to their various constitutions.  Governor Soludo recalled that a good number of communities in Anambra had caretaker committees when his administration came into power but under his leadership, they ensured communities conducted proper elections through the use Option A4 which so far has taken place in 110 communities...

ECOWAS Delegation Arrives Niger Republic For Final Dialogue With Junta Leaders A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has arrived in Niger in a last-ditch effort to peacefully resolve the standoff with the coup leaders in the country. The delegation from the regional bloc arrived in the country on Saturday. The coup leaders ousted the constitutionally recognised leader, President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26 and has detained him and other family members since then. Euronews reports that the representatives from the West African regional bloc arrived at the capital, Niamey, and joined efforts by United Nations Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Leonardo Santos Simao, who arrived on Friday, in trying to facilitate a resolution to the ongoing crisis. Mali, Burkina Faso Deploy Warplanes In Niger After ECOWAS Threat Following threats of military action by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Burkina Faso and Mali have deployed fighter jets to Niger Republic Burkina Faso and Mali warned that any military intervention in Niger would be considered a declaration of war against them. ECOWAS had threatened to declare war on Niger Republic if the junta failed to reinstate the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum. However, both governments said any military intervention in Niger would destabilise the region. A joint statement by both governments reads partly: “The disastrous consequences of a military intervention in Niger could destabilise the entire region.".

Suspected assassins storm Edo Church, shoot Pastor, kill wife  Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins have attacked a pastor, Rev Samuel Chinyereugo, and killed his wife, Peace, in Edo State. According to reports, the gunmen invaded the church, God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly, located at 101, Upper Lawani Street, New Benin, Benin City around 7:36pm on Monday, August 14, 2023, and opened fire on the pastor. The assistant pastor was also said to have also sustained injuries on his head during the attack. An anonymous source told newsmen that the gunmen trailed the pastor who drove in the company of his wife to the church, where they rained bullets on them as soon as they parked their car in front of the church. “Some members of the church, including the assistant pastor, were outside the church having a rehearsal ahead of a programme scheduled to commence that day when the pastor and his wife stopped by,” the source said.
