APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. OGUN JUDICIAL PANEL OF INVESTIGATION RECEIVES 20 PETITIONS IN 2 WEEKS.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

  No fewer than 20 petitions have been received by the Ogun Judicial Panel of Investigation set up to investigate complaints and petitions of victims of police brutality and abuse of human rights by security operatives in Ogun State within two weeks of its inauguration. The Chairman of the Panel, Hon. Justice Solomon Olugbemi (Rtd) who made this known after a meeting with the Panel members said, "we have received 20 petitions already and sitting starts immediately. The sittings would be transparent and open. Media stations are invited to witness and cover the sittings", Justice Olugbemi revealed that the maiden sitting of the Panel would hold on Thursday, 5th November, 2020 adding that the panel sitting days would be Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting by 10am at the Magistrate Court 1, Isabo, Abeokuta. LASWA COMMENCES CLEARING OF HYACINTHS ON WATERWAYS.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

  The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), on Thursday, commenced the annual exercise of clearing and removal of water hyacinths across jetties, terminals and routes on the State inland waterways. A statement signed by Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, General Manager Lagos State Waterways Authority, said the pegging and clearing of the water hyacinths commenced simultaneously at three different locations, namely Ikorodu, Badore and Badagry with a view to extending the exercise to other areas. The General Manager explained that Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu had approved the clearing of all impediments hampering smooth navigation on waterways in order to ensure free flow of traffic.   A new motoring experience is on the way on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway with the Lagos State Government’s plan to rebuild the major road. The flag-off of the reconstruction and upgrade of the important road is Sunday, November 1, 2020.
