APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. GOV. ORTOM LAYS FOUNDATION FOR 100 BED MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL.{PHOTOS}.

        Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday laid foundation for the construction of a 100 bed capacity Mother and Child specialized hospital to combat mother and child high mortality rate in the state. He performed the ceremony at the premises of Government College Makurdi, the state capital. The Governor noted that the hospital to be constructed was a product of collaboration and partnership with international and local partners, an initiative of his administration since coming on board. He said through the partnership with donor agencies and development partners, many projects including skills acquisition centers, health care centers and classroom blocks among others had been executed and handed over to various communities in the state. A TEACHER ARRESTED AFTER SHE STABBED HER HUSBAND TO DEATH IN LAGOS.{PHOTO}.

     One of my reporter Chinenye Genevieve is reporting today that ''According to reports, A teacher and mother of two stabbed her husband to death during a fight at their residence in Ikorodu, Lagos.According to the wife, she stabbed him in self defense, after being pinned down by the deceased, who was notorious for always beating her.I picked the knife to scare him, but I mistakenly stabbed him. I couldn’t have killed my husband intentionally. In the past, I used to run out of the house when being beaten, but today, he locked everywhere to prevent my escape.My family have told me to divorce him but I didn’t want to, because he is the husband of my youth and we already have two children together. You can ask around, everyone knows he beats me always.”.The wife has since been arrested by policemen attached to the Igbogbo Police Station.

LASU LAND CRISIS: AMBODE REDUCES REGULARISATION FEES.

        Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has granted a 67% reduction in land regularisation fees payable by landlords who own property within government acquisition around Lagos State University (LASU) community. Represented by his deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the Governor said that the decision was reached after series of meetings with the affected landlords through their Community Development Associations (CDAs), Office of the Surveyor- General, Lands Bureau, Lands Regularisation and other government agencies. He said, following the interactions, land valuers were invited to assess the land to determine the appropriate price for each plot and the subsequent report of the stakeholders’ committee estimated the total cost of regularisation, titles and Certificate of Occupancy at N3.9m.        The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem has expressed dismay at the increasing number of cases of domestic violence leading to fatalities in the State. While briefing the Press on the case of alleged murder of Symphorosa Otike Odibi by his wife Udeme Otike-Odibi at their Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ajah residence, the Attorney-General said the duplicate case file forwarded by the Police to the Ministry of Justice revealed components of domestic violence. According to Kazeem, “This, to the State government is very disheartening as it appears that there are increasing cases of domestic violence leading to fatalities. The couple allegedly had several domestic issues which grew worse over time.      Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode   on Friday   expressed sadness over the demise of the Chairman of Punch Newspapers, Mr. Wale Aboderin. Aboderin died  on Thursday  at a private hospital in Lagos at the age of 60.        Yesterday  at Buckingham Palace, The Queen hosted the second of the annual Buckingham Palace Garden Parties. Several Members of The Royal Family were also in attendance including two of Her Majesty's grandchildren; The Duke of Cambridge and Princess Eugenie of York. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra also attended. Garden Parties are hosted every summer by Her Majesty and are a way for The Queen to speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community.More photos below.
