 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. PRESIDENT BUHARI FELICITATES WITH FRSC AT 30+LAUDS REDUCTION IN ROAD CRASHES.

       President Muhammadu Buhari felicitates with the management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as the organisation celebrates 30 years of its establishment. The President commends the vision of its founding fathers in February 1988 in response to the unacceptable level of road crashes in the country. President Buhari notes with delight that after three decades of operations, the Corps reduced road crashes from an alarming 40,881 in 1976 to 5,993 in 2016 and 4,418 in 2017. He further lauds the significant reduction in the emergency response time of the Corps from 50 to 15 minutes to accident scenes on the nation’s highways.          A gas cylinder exploded late Friday (Feb 15) at the hotel in the city of Beawar, in the western state of Rajasthan, reducing the venue to ruins and sparking a huge fire. CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF,VISITS TROOPS AT THE FRONTLINE YESTERDAY AT SAMBISA FOREST.{PHOTOS}.

       In his bid to further boast troops morale and see things for himself, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General TY Buratai along with some Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters and Commanders, undertook operational visit to troops locations in the north east with specific emphasis on Sambisa forest on Saturday 17th February 2018. His first port of call was Bitta, where he was received by the General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General IM Yusuf and the Commander 26 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General IM Obot. AMBODE OKAYS N30,000 MONTHLY STIPENDS FOR 1,000 INTERNS.

      Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the payment of N30,000 as monthly stipends to Ready.Set.Work (RSW) interns who have been placed in various organisations for six-month paid internships. The Governor also approved N8million in seed funding for the top five winners of the RSW Business Pitch Competition, whose businesses will be placed in incubation, while the beneficiaries will commence their internships and incubation, respectively, on March 1st, 2018. Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh in a statement on Sunday said the interns were part of the 2,000 final year students from six tertiary institutions in the State who took part in the 2017 edition of the 13-week intensive Entrepreneurship and Employability training programme. EFCC ARRESTED A FAKE LAWYER OVER N1.5M SCAM ON FRIDAY.{PHOTOS}.

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday February 16, 2018, arrested Emem Isreal Uboh over allegations of N1.5 million fraud. Uboh has also been parading himself as a Barrister without any certificate to show for his claim. Following his arrest, a search was conducted in his apartment which yielded the recovery of several documents including letters of award of contracts were he was addressed as barrister.  Upon int errogation, the suspect said he only studied law at a Diploma level without the award of a certificate; he nevertheless printed and brandishes documents suggesting that he is a solicitor and attorney.Some of the documents retrieved from him which had the title of Barrister are: his company name (BARRGEORGE Nigeria LTD.), his email address (barrgeorge51@gmail.com) and his account opening documents at his bank.Uboh's waterloo followed a petition from one Bridget Bassey, who reported that in March 2017, she paid the sum of N...
