 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Suspect had on the same date allegedly defiled a ten years old girl in his room.Scene was visited by police detectives and victim taken to the hospital for medical examination where laceration of her hymen was confirmed.     Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has appointed Alhaja Selimot Olapeju Ottun as the new Head of Service in the state. This was contained in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kunle Somorin. The former Head of Service, TPL Amope Ajibola Chokor, bowed out of the public service of the state at the weekend. According to the statement, Alhaja Ottun comes into her new position with impeccable pedigree and service record. An accomplished psychologist, community development expert and administrator, she becomes the fifth woman to occupy the office and the 17th Head of Service since the creation of the State. Until her appointment, Ottun was Permanent Secretary in the Bureau of Political Affairs and Administration.         A young man was stabbed to near death this morning along Owerri - Onitsha road, in Imo state. All the because of an alleged commercial sex worker. According to the passengers they boarded a bus with, argument started inside a bus conveying them and other passengers to Onitsha between two young men over the girl (pictured below) The guy who was stabbed is related to the girl according to the passengers. He met the girl in the bus with the other guy who was taking her to his pl ace in Onitsha and since he knows the girl, he ordered her not to go with the guy. That was when arguments broke out.       President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday cautioned that the ambition for Eco regional currency could be in ‘serious jeopardy,’ unless member states complied with agreed processes of reaching the collective goal. President Buhari also expressed concern over the decision of francophone countries that form the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) to replace the CFA Franc with Eco ahead of the rest of Member States. The President delivered Nigeria’s position on the new regional currency at a virtual extraordinary meeting of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). COURT JAILS FOUR INTERNET FRAUDSTERS IN ABEOKUTA.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     Justice Ibrahim Watilat of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday, June 22, 2020, jailed four internet fraudsters for criminal impersonation. The convicts: Wariz Akintunde; Moses Olamilekan Dosumu, Richard Adegbite and Smith Enitan Adetayo were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal Office. With all pleading guilty, the judge sentenced Akintunde and Adegbite to four months in prison, with an option of N100,00 each effective from June 22, 2020. Dosumu earned two months jail term with an option of N50,000, while Adetayo was sentenced to five months in prison without an option of fine, effective from June 22, 2020. The judge further ordered Akintunde, Dosumu and Adetayo to restitute the sums of $700, $375 and N39,000 to their respective victims through the Federal Government of Nigeria. Simon Ibekwute and Sanusi Galadanchi, prosecuted the matter for the EFCC.More photos below.

COURT JAILS BORNO DIRECTOR FOR OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.[PHOTO}.

     Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, on Monday, June 22, 2020, convicted and sentenced an assistant director in Borno State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Usman Abaji to six months imprisonment for obstruction of justice. The convict was prosecuted by the Maiduguri Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one- count charge of willful obstruction of the Commissi on to exercise its powers to investigate and prosecute in a matter involving one Ibrahim Goni Bama, contrary to Section 38 (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (establishment) Act. The Commission arrested the said Bama based on investigations that linked him with financial crimes but had to release him on administrative bail to Abaji, who stood as a surety for him.

       While it rained in the wee hours of 20th June 2020, little did the people of Umuezeagu Uruagu, Nnewi know what was about to befall them as they woke up to the devastating effect of the flood that entered homes, pushed down walls and washed away farm lands. The people of Umuezeagu and Okpunoeze appreciate the effort of Dr. Willie Obiano, The Executive Governor of Anambra state on the construction of Nnewi Hotel road that cuts across the two communities in Uruagu, Nnewi. This project has continued non-stop even during this raining season as the contractor is still at site. However, the design of the drainage and the resultant flood has turned out to be a serious source of worry for Umueze-agu and Akamili-Umudim.        A Nigerian man simply identified as Femi, stabbed his wife to death, and thereafter committed suicide in their home in Victory Park estate in Lagos state on Sunday, June 21. According to residents of the estate, the couple moved into the estate three weeks ago with their two young children. Not much was known about the couple but just a day before the murder-suicide, they were spotted jogging toget her on Saturday night June 20. However, on Sunday, the man who is said to have always questioned the paternity of their second child, stabbed his wife to death, and then took his own life.
