 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Mass kidnap as terrorists swoop on Niger community, abduct 50 victims 13 May 2023  Terrorists have abducted the village head of the Fugge community in the Rijau local government area of Niger state, Mallam Abdullahi Zaure, and 49 others. The Incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the terrorists invaded the village on several motorcycles, shooting into the air and causing panic among residents. It was learnt majority of the abductees were women and children with few males while several cattle were rustled. It was also gathered that fighter jets descended on the terrorists when they were moving with the abductees which resulted in the death of several of the bandits and rustled cattle. Some of the residents claimed to have seen some bodies of the terrorists and corpses of cows killed or injured by the airstrike. Abuja teenager punches neighbour to death 13 May 2023    An 18-year-old man, Biliya Lawal, has died after receiving a punch in his stomach during a fight with his 14-year-old neighbour, simply identified as Danladi. The duo was said to have engaged in a heated exchange of words at their compound in Gadabiu in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory which resulted in a physical fight. Our correspondent gathered that the incident which happened around 6 pm on Friday had become the talk of the town. A commercial driver in the area who gave his name as Aliyu said the reason behind the exchange of words and subsequent exchange of punches was unknown. He said Immediately after Lawal fell to the ground, he was rushed to the Kwali General Hospital where he was declared dead. ARREST OF A WOMAN WHO PHYSICALLY ABUSED HER LIVE-IN HELP IN ANAMBRA.  HANDS HER OVER TO THE POLICE. By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Honourable Ify Obinabo has arrested one Chinyere Ifesinachi for physically abusing her live-in help in Nnewi.  The arrest was made on Friday and the case immediately transferred to the State Criminal and Investigative Department of the Anambra Police Command Awka where she will be charged to court.  The abuser, Chinyere Ifesinachi, a 25 year old from Alor but married to an Enugu man after the arrest pleaded with the Women and Social Welfare Commissioner to forgive her as her actions was orchestrated by the devil.  Chinyere who was visibly in tears, accepted using both cane and pestle to beat the young girl to pulp saying that the reason for beating her was because she threw her child on the ground.  The parents of the child explained to the Commissioner that it was out of pity tha...

Maku, Others In Attendance As ECWA Holds Mass Burial For Members Killed In Tattara Mada  ***  The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Saturday held mass burial for its members who were killed recently by gunmen suspected to be fulani herdsmen in Tattara Mada, Kokona LGA of Nasarawa State.  A total of seven members of the Church were gruesomely murdered in cold blood between Sunday April 16 and Monday April 17, 2023 when the yet-to-be arrested assailants invaded the community.  The deceased victims are Allahnana Danjuma, Renkle Moses, Iliya Tsebe, Nchekpu Chero, Friday Ahock, Bitrus Zaria and Philip Wanaso who left behind wives, twenty children and many relations.  In attendance during the funeral programme were clergymen, family members, kinsmen and other mourners notably a former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku.

Takalafia Holds Mass Burial For Residents Killed By Unknown Gunmen  ***  Gunmen suspected to be fulani herdsmen wreaked havoc on Takalafia community and environs in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.  The pastor in-charge of the community's Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Daniel Danbeki and other residents were gruesomely murdered by the assailants during the attack on Thursday night which lasted till early hours of Friday May 12.  Properties of the residents including foodstuffs worth millions of naira were also destroyed by the assailants.  Neighbouring communities namely Gwanja and Angwan Bege according to reports were also attacked.  Other residents of the communities who are predominantly Gwandara, Mada and Yeskwe among others also sustained various degrees of injuries.  The Executive Chairman of Karu Local Governnent Area, Mr James Thomas who visited the community on Saturday condemned the attack in totality.  Thomas r...

The deceased have only been identified as 23 female adults and one male adult while those injured are eight females and four males.  The driver of the bus is among the injured victims.
