APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

Image
Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. The lawyers representing DR Congo said on Wednesday they w...

PRESS STATEMENT ON CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE OXFORD/ASTRAZENECA VACCINE.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

Image
We are aware of precautionary concerns that have been raised regarding one specific batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine, namely ABV5300. We understand that investigations are being conducted to determine if the batch is in any way linked to an observed side effect. While we await the outcome of the investigations, it is important to clearly state that Nigeria did not receive any doses from the batch of vaccines which is at issue. Vaccinations in Nigeria started earlier this month and we have not observed any similar adverse reactions. All side effects reported by those who have been administered the vaccine have been mild. We are satisfied that the clinical evidence indicates the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to be safe and effective. Our assessment is in line with countries such as Spain and the UK who have indicated that they will continue to administer the vaccine, because it remains an important tool to protect against COVID-19. The safety of vaccines delivered to Nigeria is paramo...

March 12, 2021 Press Statement N212 Fuel Price, An Invitation For Mass Protest, PDP Cautions...Insists Fuel Shouldn’t Sell Above N70 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautions that any increase of pump price of fuel to N212 per liter by the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration would amount to a direct invitation for mass protest in the country. The PDP says any contemplation for N212 pump price would be pushing Nigerians to the wall; a situation that is capable of worsening an already tensed situation and lead to economic and social crisis in the country. Our party holds that the N212 per liter reportedly contemplated in the March pricing template by the APC administration, is wicked, insensitive, and callous. It is a barefaced fact that there is no way that Nigerians can survive such hike in fuel price, which will worsen the already agonizing economic situation in the country. Our party maintains that with an honest and transparent administration of our na...
