 Atiku Meets Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday paid a visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja. The encounter is their first since Jonathan returned from an election observation mission in Guinea-Bissau. Sharing pictures of the meeting on his verified social media platforms on Sunday, Atiku wrote, “It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea-Bissau.” Jonathan, who served as President from 2010 to 2015, lost his re-election bid in 2015 to Muhammadu Buhari. The visit comes days after Atiku’s official defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), having resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party over claims that the party had strayed from the principles of its founding fathers. There are indications that Atiku may emerge as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. One more photo below.

 BAUCHI GOV APPOINTS CHINESE BUSINESSMAN AS ECONOMIC ADVISER Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has appointed a Chinese national, Li Zhensheng, as economic adviser to the state government. Zhensheng is the Chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, an agency that just signed a MoU with Bauchi State for economic development. Governor Mohammed said the partnership with CGPCRC and Zhensheng's appointment is to make Bauchi an international hub of accelerated investment, infrastructure development, and bilateral collaboration across agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade sectors. “As part of the deal, a Bauchi State Representative Office will be established in China to oversee project implementation and ensure timely delivery,” he said.  NPFL Unveils 2025/26 Season Schedule, Kicks Off August 22 The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced the schedule for the 2025/26 season, with the new campaign set to begin on Friday, August 22, 2025. Defending champions Remo Stars will face Rivers United in the opening match at Ikenne. The league will take a mid-season break from December 30, 2025, to January 6, 2026, allowing teams and players to rest before the second half of the season. The mid-season transfer window will be open from January 1 to January 30, 2026, providing clubs an opportunity to bolster their squads.  ENUGU LAUNCHES 100 CNG BUSES TO CREATE 20,000 JOBS  Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State rolled out 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses on Thursday with a view to creating new 20,000 jobs.  The governor launched the buses while inaugurating the New Enugu Transport Management System and five modern bus terminals at Holy Ghost, Gariki, Abakpa and Nsukka. Mbah said Enugu's GDP will grow to $30 billion in the next six years with the transportation overhaul in the state. He said this will uplift the economy and dignify the living standards of the people. According to him, the projects will provide the people with cheaper, accessible and seamless movement as other infrastructure meant to support the projects and the new system are already in place.

 WOMAN THAT KILLED 11 HUSBANDS FOR WEALTH TO BE EXECUTED  An Iranian woman, Kolsum Akbari, is facing execution after murdering 11 or more husbands to inherit their wealth.  Nicknamed Black Widow, Akbari went after rich and elderly men to marry them and then poisoned them to inherit their wealth.  Akbari murdered 11 or more husbands within 23 years before autopsy of her last victim revealed her crimes. She confessed to her evil and couldn't recall the actual number of her victims. “I don’t know how many I killed," she stated. "Maybe it was 13 or 15 people. I don’t remember exactly." The 56-year-old serial killer used a combination of blood pressure medications, diabetes drugs, sedatives and in some cases industrial alcohol to kill her husbands. If everything failed, she would suffocate them with a pillow.

 NLC TO BEGIN NATIONWIDE STRIKE ON AUGUST 22 The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced seven days of mobilization towards starting a nationwide strike on August 22, 2025. To prevent the scheduled industrial strike, the NLC said the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) must restore 40% of employees contributions diverted to other purposes within seven days. The NLC President Joe Aliero also faulted the government's stake on the NLC National Headquarters in Abuja. He also demanded that the board of the Pension Commission (PENCOM) must be re-constituted within seven days. The Congress also tasked the current administration to steadfastly tackle economic crises, runaway inflation, joblessness, hunger, insecurity, and the collapse of public services among others.

 Wisconsin- A father and son bravely jumped into a raging river to save their dog which in turn, caused them to need to be rescued.  This is definitely a story you need to read until the end.  A dramatic water rescue was captured on a police body cam near Milwaukee on Monday, August 11th. An unidentified man and his son were enjoying the day near the river when their pet dog named 'Blue' jumped into the rushing waters. After witnessing their beloved dog Blue jump into the river, the father wasted no time jumping in, to attempt to rescue Blue. Despite the raging waters, as the river is running high and fast due to recent rain, the son quickly followed the dad into the cold waters.  Both father and son completely lost control of the situation and were soon fighting for their own lives.  EFCC Grills Five Suspected Illegal Miners in Uyo Operatives of the Economic  and Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC,   Uyo Zonal Directorate on Wednesday,  August 13 2025, arrested five suspected illegal miners involved in the extraction and transportation of ilmenite, locally called ‘black sand’ without the requisite licence. The arrested suspects are: Samuel Eshiet Akwa, Willie Peter Uboko ,  Muhammed Tukur , Salmannu Ibrahim  and Jaafar Adam.  At the time of their arrest, the suspects were conveying one thousand two hundred (1,200) bags of Ilmenite in a truck without authorization.   All they had was a waybill indicating that the consignment belonged to a certain WillJane Global Ventures Limited.  Senator Moro bemoans rising kidnapping in Benue Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro has decried the rising cases of kidnapping in parts of Benue South Senatorial District, particularly in Orokam District of Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state. The senator is saddened that his constituents in the besieged communities are living in fear, with many residents fleeing their homes. Sen. Mali has endured over a decade of turmoil marked by insecurity in its arid north along with political instability that culminated in a series of coups in 2020 and 2021 that brought current president General Assimi Goita to power. Earlier this week, dozens of soldiers and military officials were reportedly taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to destabilise Goita's government.  Fire erupts on Maersk container ship off Liberia  A Maersk container ship caught fire off the coast of Liberia on Wednesday, and efforts to extinguish the blaze were still underway a day later, the Danish shipping company confirmed Thursday. The vessel, identified as the Marie Maersk, was traveling from Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia, when crew members detected smoke coming from several containers onboard. Maersk reported that all crew members were safe and actively working to control the fire. Two tugboats equipped with firefighting gear reached the scene late Wednesday to assist in the operation. Authorities and the company are continuing to monitor the situation as the firefighting efforts proceed.
