APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. THE LOWEST DEGREE ''PASS'',OBTAINED IN A UNIVERSITY,HAS NOW BEEN ABOLISHED BY THE N.U.C.

                   According to sources,the National Universities Commission {NUC} has abolished the Award of Pass Degree in Nigerian Universities with the effect from the 2013/2014 academic session.Today wednesday the Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto,Prof Abdullahi Zuru,confirmed the rumors/ made the disclosure at 2014/2015 matriculation of 4,133 students of the institution.He said ''This has far reaching implications on the grading system of students in the universities.This means that the minimum pass mark for courses in the universities will now be 45 percent,that is,D-grade,instead of the previous 40 percent which was E-grade.It also means that the minimum class of Degree to be earned by students will now be Third class''.

                          Yesterday tuesday,Chad army killed more than 200 Boko Haram militants,and Chad also lost nine soldiers.Chad's army destroyed more than a dozen vehicles equipped with heavy weapons and some 100 motorcycles used by the militants in battles in the towns of Gambaru and Ngala.Militants also attacked the town of Fotokol in Cameroon today wednesday in the latest cross border incursion by the group,which operates near Nigeria's frontiers with Niger,Chad and Cameroon.The fighters attacked at around 5:am after the Chadian troops who were temporarily based there crossed over to Gambaru on tuesday.The Cameroon Information Minister Issa Tchiroma said through a telephone conversation to a pressman that ''The insurgents have been driven out.They tried to surprise us because the Chadian troops who were in Fotokol had crossed over to Nigeria''.
