APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.        Yesterday Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle visited Cardiff to sample some Welsh culture and to learn more about organisations working in communities across Wales. The day started at Cardiff Castle, home to the Welsh Culture Festival. During their tour, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle heard some traditional Welsh music and poetry, met some leading sportsmen and women, and learnt how organisations are working to promote the Welsh language and cultural identity.His Royal Highness  and Ms. Markle also visited StarHub, a community and leisure centre in the Tremorfa area of the city, to see how sport is being used to engage young people and aid social development. GOV. AHMED SIGNS IVTEC BILL AND TWO OTHERS INTO LAW.

        Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has signed into law the bill establishing the International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship Development College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo. The State House of Assembly recently passed the bill after considering salient issues bordering on the management, composition of the Governing Council, appointments and funding mechanism of the College. Speaking on IVTEC, Gov Ahmed said his administration is determined to ensure that the objectives of establishing the College are achieved He said that IVTEC was established to tackle unemployment by equipping youths with relevant vocational and entrepreneurial skills that will make them employable, self-reliant, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the State and Nigeria in general. COURT JAILS MAN 2 YEARS FOR N10M FRAUD.{PHOTOS}.

        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on January 15, 2018 secured the conviction of one Chike Tony Odigbo on one count charge of obtaining money by false pretence before Justice D. Z. Senchi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja. Arraigned on November 18, 2013, Odigbo, a former staff of Intercontinental Homes Limited allegedly collected N10million from one Ademola Oluwayemi to secure a property  in the Intercontinental Homes, but converted same to personal use.According to Oluwayemi, the money which was paid to a fix deposit account was neither acknowledged nor used for the purpose intended.In the course of the trial, counsel to the EFCC, Gift Odibo, presented three witnesses and tendered documents which were admitted in evidence.In his judgment, Justice Senchi, said “the prosecution has proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt”. The judge, thereafter, convicted and sentenced Odigbo to 2years imprisonm...

             The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, January 19, 2018 graduated 183 cadets of the Detective Inspector Course 4, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Parade Ground, Ribadu Campus, Kaduna. The colourful passing out parade climaxed 13 months of rigorous training to avail the officers with the necessary skills of law enforcement. Addressing the officers, the National Security Adviser, NSA, to the president, Major General Mohammed Babagana Monguno (Retd), who also the Receiving Officer, urged the operatives to be determined and patriotic while at EFCC, and also stay fearless and show no mercy to treasury looters.        The Lagos State Government and the environmental utility group contracted to implement the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, have intensified evacuation of waste in black spots and illegal dump sites across the metropolis. A tour of various parts of the State on Friday revealed that evacuation of filth had been carried out and still ongoing in major areas including Falomo Bridge, Obalende, Ikoyi, Mushin, Ikeja, Ipaja, Agege, Oshodi, Lagos Island, among others. The clean-up exercise, which was simultaneously going on across the State, is in line with "Operation Deep Clean," a stop-gap measure designed to keep the city clean pending the full transition to the new waste management policy of the State Government encapsulated in the CLI.
