APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. LASG PAYS OVER N16M BENEFITS TO LSSC RETIREES.#PRESS RELEASE.

       Lagos State Government has again redeemed its promise to some of its retired officers with the payment of benefits worth over N61 million to the retirees of the defunct Lagos State Sports Council, now renamed Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, from 2015 to date. Speaking during the presentation of bond certificates to the beneficiaries at the Commission's office in Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, Ch airman of LSSC, stated that the Commission is the first agency to pay its retirees from the year 2015. The Chairman commended Governor Ambode for approving the Commission's requests for the payment of retirement benefits to the beneficiaries, adding that the gesture once again proves that the State government is concerned about the welfare of its workers.        The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Friday, March 1, 2019, re-arraigned the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Paul Usoro, SAN, before Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a 10-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N1,410,000,000 (One Billion, Four Hundred and Ten Million Naira). Usoro was charged along with Nsikan Nkan, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance; Mfon Udomah, Accountant-General of Akwa Ibom State; Uwemedimo Nwoko, Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State and Margaret Ukpe, who are all at large. The defendant was first arraigned before Justice M.S. Hassan on Monday, December 18, 2018 before the case was transferred to Justice Aikawa.
