 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.       A mini coffin suspected to contain fetish materials was found with a 38-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Azeez Adebowale, when operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, raided his house in Ibadan on Monday, March 2, 2020. . . Adebowale, who claimed to be using the coffin as soap rack, was among the six persons arrested following weeks of piecing together tips on intelligence received on their alleged involvement in internet fraud. . . The suspects which included a lady, Toyinsola Bolumole, were picked up by men of the Commission’s Ibadan zonal office at locations around Oluyole and Alao-Akala Estates of the ancient city. .Others are Ifelowo Ololade, Sonuyi Ayodeji, Folarin Oladele Olayinka and Aluko Olawale. . .        Lagos State Government, through the Wastewater Management Office, has sealed the Conoil Filling Station on Oregun Road, opposite Welfare Bus-Stop, for Environmental Infraction thereby contravening the Lagos State 2017 Harmonised Environmental Law. Adebola Matanmi, the station’s operations were being carried out in an environment with a collapsed and open septic tank fo r the past six months and, as a result, endangering the lives of Lagosians, particularly motorists and residents in the area.       The Kano Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 3, 2020 arraigned one Asiya Bala Aliyu before Justice R.A. Sadiq of the Kano State High Court on a two-count charge of misappropriation of funds. . . The defendant allegedly collected the sum of N36million from Hadiza Inna Sanusi in the guise that the said money was to be invested in Galaxy Investment Package. The money was however, diverted to the personal use of the defendant.

      The Nigerian Army has handed over two suspected oil thieves and a truck to the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for further investigation and possible prosecution. . . The suspects, Patience David, 38 and Iniebong Udo Etim, 32 were arrested by the officers of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army during a routine patrol on March 2, 2020 at about 10.50am in Awa junction, Onna Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. . . They were arrested alongside a white truck containing illegally refined Automated Gas Oil, AGO stacked in sacks. The truck had no registration number. . . Victor Ikang, Head of the zone’s Extractive Industry Fraud Section, received the suspects and the truck from the Army, on behalf of Garba Dugum, the Uyo zonal head. . . Chiweze, who disagreed with the judgment of the six other members of the panel, said that Ihedioha's application had merit and therefore allowed it. He added that the apex court had the power to review its judgment.
