 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. MORE THAN 100 BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS,ATTACKED GOMBE TODAY.

               Today Saturday,over a 100 Boko Haram fighters stormed Gombe,firing heavy guns and throwing keaflets,calling on residence to boycott the forthcoming general elections.Sources said ''The Boko Haram gunmen are now at the Jeka-da-fari roundabout in the centre of the city,firing indiscriminately and throwing pamphlets calling on people not to participate in the election.I received calls from friends in Kwadam,which is five kilometres away warning me to leave because Boko Haram were on their way.I evacuated my house along with my family before they arrived the city and i'm happy that i did becsuse from information i'm receiving,they have taken over the military Barracks''.
