 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.  The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reassured Nigerians that the challenges facing the country's power sector will soon be resolved. He further revealed that significant funds have been allocated by the Federal Government to the energy sector. However, he expressed regret that the majority of Nigerians are still grappling with persistent power issues. Adelabu said while visiting the Ihovbo Power Plant in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. He said: “I have gone round the installations, and I am quite impressed with what we have here. Contrary to general belief, Nigeria has invested so much in power generating plants. The plants are state-of-the-art facilities, and they are well maintained. Fire breaks out at FCT Minister of State Residence There was an outbreak of fire on Sunday afternoon at the private residence of the Minister of State Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud. The house located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro, was completely razed and nothing could be salvaged from the ruins. It was learnt fire fighters were slow to respond to the development. Media aide to the Minister, Mr. Austine Elemue, confirmed the development though he added that the cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained.

The police in Rivers State have launched an investigation into the painful death of Rebecca Sekidika, a 24-year-old first-class graduate of Microbiology.  Police Nab Fake Philanthropist, Recover Fraudulently Obtained Bags Of Rice In Enugu.  In a swift response, Enugu State Police Operatives stationed at the Ogui Police Division have thwarted an attempt by Nnamani Joseph, 45, to defraud a local businessman of eighteen bags of rice valued at N400,000. On Valentine’s Day, 14 February, 2024, Nnamani approached a church in Ogui, Enugu, under the guise of purchasing rice for charity for church. He contacted the businessman, requesting the rice, which was promptly supplied. DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, made this known in a press release issued on Sunday and obtained by Rivers Mirror  Accompanying Nnamani to the bank for payment, the businessman fell victim as Nnamani absconded after secretly transferring the rice back to the church.  74-year-old grandma stabbed to death trying to protect her 17-year-old granddaughter. Mary Catherine Bland was found suffering multiple stab wounds by Bel-Air police in her residence at around 3 p.m on Thursday. Bland's granddaughter had also suffered from a physical assault and was suffering from non-life threatening injuries. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital where Bland unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Police investigating the incident quickly determined the suspect to be 24-year-old Angelo Spencer, he was arrested within an hour of the attack. Police determined Spencer who had previously dated Bland's underage granddaughter had forced his way into the home. Records show he had purchased a pocket knife and glass cutter hours before the attack. He then tried to use the glass cutter to gain entry in the rear of the home. Recall that Usher became the latest Western artist to catch the Afrobeats wave when he featured Pheelz in ‘Ruin,’ the lead song of his latest album, and Burna Boy in the album titled track, ‘Homecoming’. Speaking in a recent interview with Apple Music, Usher said Pheelz played a role in his collaboration with Burna Boy. PROFESSIONAL BOWLER ARRESTED FOR CP MID TOURNAMENT IN INDIANA. (PHOTO).

 Professional Bowler arrested for CP mid tournament earlier this month in Indiana. 35-year-old Brandon Novak was indicted back in January in his home state of Ohio. The indictment was for 15 felony counts, 5 of which are "pandering sexually oriented matter"- involving a minor. The other 10 counts are for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material. Novak was arrested while competing in the 2024 U.S open at Royal Pin Woodland in Indianapolis. Even after being arrested midway through the tournament, Novak managed to finish 36th and bring home a 1,500.00 payday. Novak has been extradited to Ross County Jail in Ohio. His pre-trial hearing is scheduled for March 21.

 A vehicle stolen in the Eastern Cape 14 years ago, was recovered in Mpumalanga and a suspect (31) was arrested by the joint Task Team members of Nerston and Mahamba boarder policing at Nerston Port of Entry on Saturday, 24 February 2024. It was reported that when the task team members were doing vehicle verification on the white Toyota Corolla, it transpired that the vehicle identification number (VIN) on the license disk does not correspond with the VIN on the body of the vehicle. Further investigation was conducted, and the outcome indicated that the vehicle was reported stolen in Komani (Queenstown) in the Eastern Cape Province in December 2010.

 Abia Govt Sacks Illegal Occupants At Aba Textile Abia State Government has sacked alleged illegal occupants of properties belonging to the Aba Textile Mills at the Government Reservation Area, GRA, Aba.  The three buildings located on a large expanse of land at Oron Street, in the area,were sealed and marked as ‘Abia State Government property.’  One of the buildings was converted to a school , with other structures erected in the expansive compound.
