 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. Dembos was appointed DG of the TV network by President Tinubu in October 2023. He will now return to complete his three-year tenure. The President similarly directed the recall of Mr Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to complete his three-year tenure, which ends in 2027. Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. The new directive effectively reversed the previously announced appointments of a director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.  $600m monthly diaspora remittances proof of reforms – FG The Federal Government has expressed excitement over a sharp rise in diaspora remittances, which have surged to $600m monthly in the past two months, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the increase reflected renewed confidence in the Nigerian economy and recent CBN policy reforms. In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Monday, Dabiri-Erewa described the inflow as “humongous,” noting that it marked a 200 percent jump from the $200m monthly average previously recorded.  2027: Over 2.6m Nigerians registered for voter cards in 2 weeks – INEC The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that more than 2.6 million Nigerians have registered online and in-person in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise. In a statement issued on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, after its regular weekly meeting, the Commission disclosed that the online pre-registration, which began on Monday, 18 August 2025, had in just two weeks recorded a total of 2,532,062 entries. INEC said the figures reflected an encouraging level of civic engagement by citizens across the country. According to the breakdown, as of Sunday, 31 August 2025, a total of 1,218,482 registrants, representing 48.12 per cent, are male, while 1,313,580, representing 51.88 per cent, are female. 3 hospitalized, including child, after minivan crashes into Pennsylvania festival Three people, including a child and a woman in a wheelchair, were hospitalized Monday after a minivan drove through the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Authorities have taken the driver into custody, but it remains unclear whether the incident was intentional as the investigation continues. The annual three-day festival, held over Labor Day weekend, celebrates the region’s Native American heritage. Harrisburg Police Captain Atah Akakpo-Martin said the vehicle entered a barricaded area just after 6 p.m., near the end of the event. Among those injured was a 6-year-old boy in critical condition.  A Louisiana man is facing charges after a road rage incident led him to fatally shoot a 17-year-old woman who was 7 months pregnant in the head.  This ultimately took her life and forced doctors to perform an emergency c- section; which saved the baby's life. This terrible and shocking incident occurred on Sunday, August 24th, near Ponchatoula, Louisiana. On that date, 17-year-old Katelynn Strate was a passenger in a Ford Expedition being driven by her boyfriend/ father of her child. At some point, 54-year-old Barry West, who was driving a Dodge truck, began to tailgate Katelynn's boyfriend. The two drivers  began to "brake check" each other. During the exchange, West became so enraged he fired a shot at the Expedition. Sadly, the bullet struck Katelynn in the head.   After the shooting, Katelynn's boyfriend rushed her to a nearby hospital.  Thugs attack former AGF, Abubakar Malami’s convoy in Kebbi Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, escaped being injured yesterday, September 1, after his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi. Malami was just returning after paying a condolence visit to a family in the state capital when the assailants attacked his convoy, destroying 10 vehicles in the convoy and leaving several of his supporters injured during the attack. Under the new directive, members of the State Executive Council are required to appear in traditional attire on every first Monday of the month, while civil servants across the state will wear traditional outfits every Friday.  ANAMBRA POLICE ARRESTS FOUR SUSPECTED MEMBERS OF ARMED ROBBERY AND KIDNAPPING SYNDICATES, RECOVERS FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in the early hours of 1st September, 2025 arrested four male suspects and recovered 2 (Two) Pump Action Guns and Nine 9 (Nine) Live Cartridges in Amansea, Awka. This was based on credible intelligence on a Case of kidnapping where a ransom of N5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) only was paid before the victims were released. Famine has been confirmed in some parts of the country,” OCHA said in a statement on the X social media platform. “We cannot stand by, the people of Sudan need help,” it added, calling the cholera outbreak “the largest” in recent years, Anadolu Agency reported.
