 Atiku Meets Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday paid a visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja. The encounter is their first since Jonathan returned from an election observation mission in Guinea-Bissau. Sharing pictures of the meeting on his verified social media platforms on Sunday, Atiku wrote, “It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea-Bissau.” Jonathan, who served as President from 2010 to 2015, lost his re-election bid in 2015 to Muhammadu Buhari. The visit comes days after Atiku’s official defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), having resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party over claims that the party had strayed from the principles of its founding fathers.  POLICE ARREST SIX MEMBERS OF WANTED GANG, RECOVER WEAPONS AND SUSPECTED STOLEN VEHICLE Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended six suspected gang members and recovered arms, ammunition, and an unregistered vehicle suspected to be stolen during a routine patrol on May 29, 2025. The operation is part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and enhance public safety. The suspects identified as Yakubu Oke, ’m’ aged 48, Teslim Balogun, ‘m’ aged 33, Emmanuel Osas, ‘m’ aged 33, Joseph Abah, ‘m’ aged 34, Idris Adewunmi, ‘m’ aged 32, and Opeyemi Kolawole, ‘m’ aged 28 were intercepted and questioned but failed to provide satisfactory information regarding their movements and identities, raising suspicion.  His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor, paid a condolence visit to the Niger State Government over the Mokwa flood disaster.  He was received by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba. During the visit, Obi donated ₦20 million and offered prayers for the victims.  He commended the state government's response efforts and called for more action to mitigate natural disasters. Obi expressed deep sympathy with the affected families and communities, showing solidarity during this challenging time.  Terrorists kill over 30 soldiers in Mali An army camp in the Malian city of Timbuktu on Monday was under attack by "terrorists" and heavy gunfire was heard, military and local officials and residents told AFP news agency. "We are dealing with terrorists attacking Timbuktu. We are fighting back," a military source said. "The camp in the city centre has been attacked," the source added. A local official said: "The terrorists arrived today in Timbuktu with a vehicle packed with explosives. The vehicle exploded near the (military) camp. Shooting is currently continuing." UN staff were instructed in a message "to take shelter" and "stay away from windows" due to "shooting in the city of Timbuktu".  Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 government has announced the arrest of 146 foreign nationals for allegedly violating immigration laws in the first quarter of 2025. The arrests, revealed by Immigration Department chief director Ms Respect Gono, mark a sharp rise from the 122 detained in the same period last year. Those arrested include nationals from Malawi 🇲🇼 (37), Ethiopia 🇪🇹 (24), China 🇨🇳 (21), the Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩 (19), and smaller numbers from Mozambique 🇲🇿 , Zambia 🇿🇲 , and elsewhere. For Zimbabwe, this marks a dramatic departure from the inclusive, Pan-African values once championed by former President Robert Mugabe, who positioned Zimbabwe as a home for all Africans fleeing imperialism, colonial legacy, or political instability.  Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Student Dies in Road Incident on Way to Makurdi for Sallah Holiday Tragedy struck yesterday evening as a female student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Toto campus, lost her life in a road incident while traveling to Makurdi, Benue State, to celebrate the Sallah holiday.  According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred along the Toto–Makurdi route. Though full details of the accident remain unclear, it was confirmed that the student died at the scene before emergency services could arrive. The identity of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of her family. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but school officials have expressed their condolences and called for increased caution among students traveling during festive periods.  Half Truck Overturns in Tafelkop, 14 Injured A half truck transporting 16 farmworkers overturned on Monday morning while on its way to nearby farms in Tafelkop, Limpopo. Fourteen people, including the driver, sustained injuries in the accident. The injured individuals were taken to Groblersdal Hospital and Tafelkop Clinic for medical treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Minah Bahula, has expressed her sympathies to those affected by the incident. Uzomba Ekwuruibe, President General of Okauigo Nkwoegwu Improvement Union, alleged that suspected invaders from Amachara community in Umuahia South LGA stormed Umunenweze and other villages in Okauiga Nkwoegwu, armed with dane guns, cutlasses, and hammers.  Defamation: Natasha to appear in court Tuesday The suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District of Kogi State, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, will appear in court on Tuesday, as summoned. This was confirmed by her lead counsel, West Idahosa (SAN), on Sunday. Idahosa, however, expressed uncertainty about whether the Federal Government planned to arraign her on Tuesday.
