After years of upheaval following the Gaza war, residents say the renewed festivities offer a fragile but welcome sign of relief and resilience. Juka, who watched his family’s restaurant sit empty through two holiday seasons, described the moment simply: “It’s not like it was before the war, but it feels like life is coming back again.” Bethlehem’s identity and livelihood are deeply tied to tourism, with the majority of its residents depending on pilgrims and visitors to keep the local economy moving. When the war erupted after the Hamas-led attack on Israe...

HUNDREDS OF PROTESTERS ARRESTED IN LONDON FOR BACKING BANNED PRO-PALESTINIAN GROUP. (PHOTO).

Image
Hundreds of protesters arrested in London for backing banned pro-Palestinian group British police arrested 365 people in central London on Saturday as supporters of the recently banned pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action deliberately defied the law to pressure the government to reconsider the ban. The ban was enacted in early July after activists broke into a Royal Air Force base and vandalized two tanker planes to protest Britain’s support for Israel’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza. The new law makes it a crime to publicly support Palestine Action. Supporters have held multiple protests across the U.K. in recent weeks, arguing that the law unlawfully restricts freedom of expression. More than 500 protesters gathered outside the Houses of Parliament, many holding signs reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action,” daring police to make arrests. As the protest ended, organizers and police clashed over the number of arrests, with organizers claiming the law was ineff...

SOUTH KOREA'S MILITARY SHRINKS 20% IN SIX YEARS AMID DECLINING MALE POPULATION. (PHOTO).

Image
South Korea's military shrinks 20% in six years amid declining male population South Korea’s military has shrunk by 20% over the past six years, dropping to about 450,000 troops, largely due to a sharp decline in the population of males eligible for mandatory service, according to a report released Sunday. The country, which has the world’s lowest birthrate, is facing a shrinking pool of enlistment-age men, creating shortages in officer ranks and raising concerns about operational readiness if the trend continues, the defense ministry warned. The report was submitted to lawmaker Choo Mi-ae of the ruling Democratic Party, whose office made it public. South Korea’s military has steadily decreased since the early 2000s, when troop numbers hovered around 690,000. The decline accelerated after 2019, when there were approximately 563,000 active soldiers and officers. The drop coincides with a 30% fall in the population of 20-year-old men—from about 330,000 in 2019 to 230,000 in 2025—the...
