 Zamfara Governor’s Wife Facilitates Marriage for 100 Orphans, Offers Support to Grooms The wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has overseen the marriage of 100 orphaned girls in the state. The brides, who were well cared for prior to the ceremony, received full attention for their beautification. Each bride’s dowry, amounting to 151,000 Naira, was covered by the Governor’s wife. In addition, Huriyya Dauda Lawal provided essential household items, including furniture such as cushions, beds, wardrobes, mattresses, and kitchen utensils. Furthermore, she offered financial assistance of N50,000 to each groom to help them start their businesses and achieve self-sufficiency. Hajiya Lawal encouraged the brides to respect their husbands and practice patience. She also assured them that the Zakkat and Endowment Board would be available to offer support should any marital issues arise.

2023 Election: All Eyes Now On The Judiciary - Catholic Bishops Catholic Bishops have appealed to the Judiciary to save the Nigeria’s democracy, arguing that all eyes are now on it to remedy the obvious irregularities that marred the 2023 general elections. The Bishops of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province who met in Umuahia, Abia State, expressed disappointment over the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to live up to its promise to deliver a credible poll. In a communiqué issued after their meeting at Umuahia Diocesan Secretariat, the Bishops urged the Judiciary to redeem the situation in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy. “The hope, at the moment is that the judiciary will rise up to the challenge and rescue our ailing democratic experiment”, the communique read in part. Tears As Bandits Kill Scores, Abduct Many Villagers In Zamfara Community Gunmen suspected to be terrorists attacked Kwatar community, close to Gidan Zala, Kotorkoshi district of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, killing scores and kidnapping many villagers. DAILY POST reliably gathered that the bandits invaded the community in the wee hours of Friday without security operatives intervention. According to a police officer from the village, Ismaila, many villagers were killed while some were kidnapped, with many escaping with various degrees of injuries in the deadly operation by the terrorists. “My father, elder brother and his wife were also killed along with many villagers in the attack”, he added.

The President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, Olatunbosun Oladapo, said gas consumers should brace themselves for price hikes starting next week. He cited rising international prices, high tax rates and prices of vessels, forex scarcity, and naira devaluation as some of the reasons for the intended price review. “It is starting next week because international prices have gone up. 17-year-old student falsely accused of stealing iPhone 7 d!es after torture by task force in Adamawa A 17-year-old senior secondary student, Abdullahi Tukur Abba, has died after he was allegedly tortured by security personnel attached to Operation Farauta in Yola, Adamawa State.    The SS 2 student, who was writing his SSCE, was arrested on August 5, 2023, after a neighbour accused him of stealing his iPhone 7 and lodged a complaint with the task force. Homeless Nigerian man arrested for allegedly beating 61-year-old woman to dëäth in Italy A 37-year-old homeless Nigerian migrant identified as Nweke Chukwuka, has been arrested for allegedly beating a 61-year-old woman, Iris Setti, to dëäth in Italy.    The attack occurred on Saturday evening, August 5, 2023, at around 10:30 pm in the city of Rovereto in Trento when Iris Setti was walking through a public park in the Santa Maria district of the city and was set upon by the suspect, a Nigerian living on the street.  NAFDAC warns South-East residents against using carbide to ripen fruits The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has warned the general public that fruits ripened with calcium carbide and buying drugs from hawkers is a complete risk that could lead to death. The Director-General, NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated this on Tuesday, in her keynote address during the media sensitisation workshop on “Dangers of drug hawking and ripening of fruits with calcium carbide”, held in Awka, the Anambra State capital. Adeyeye said the chemicals in calcium carbide were hazardous to pregnant women and children and will lead to headaches, dizziness, mood disturbances, mental confusion, memory loss, swelling in the brain caused by excessive fluids, sleepiness, seizure, and others. More information has emerged on the circumstances surrounding the death of the founder of Fountain of Life Church, Lagos Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, who passed away in the US on August 7.  The Nation reports that the respected preacher had health issues mainly triggered by personal tragedies.   A source close to the family was quoted as saying ‘’He really didn’t get over the losses he suffered. He tried to be strong but there is a limit to what a man can take.”   Pastor Taiwo, as he is fondly called, lost his first wife, Pastor Bimbo, in a Sosoliso plane crash in 2005. She was 45. Subsidy Removal Will Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions - Shettima  Vice President Kashim Shettima said on Tuesday that with the removal of fuel subsidy, Nigeria is projected to save over 15 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in one year. Shettima said this at the one-day workshop organised by the National Council on Climate Change with the theme “Unpacking the outcomes of the 58 sessions of the subsidiary bodies of the United Nations framework convention on climate change,” organised by the National Council on Climate Change.
