APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

Image
Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. The lawyers representing DR Congo said on Wednesday they w...

DETERMINED TO BE IN THE HEADLINES, PDP SENATORS ARE DIVIDED, CONFUSED.(PHOTO).#PRESS RELEASE.

DETERMINED TO BE IN THE HEADLINES, PDP SENATORS ARE DIVIDED, CONFUSED     The performative and babyish antics of those senators staging a walk out notwithstanding, Senate President Ahmad Lawan’s refusal on Wednesday to entertain the ridiculous motion to impeach our President was quite appropriate and correct.   Rather than making a mockery out of voters by trying to imitate what they see in America, the opposition would be well advised that their time would be better spent tackling the pressing issues Nigerians face, such as the current global cost of living crisis.   Their continued failure to do so goes some way to explaining why they remain in opposition.   In contrast, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is committed to finding lasting solutions to the emerging security threats, including those left behind by the PDP in the South-South, the Northeast and throughout the federation. In the last 24 hours, two more Chibok girls were freed, in addition ...

MEET THE ONLY TWO FEMALE SANS FROM ANAMBRA STATE. (PHOTO).

Image
Meet the Only Two Female SANs from Anambra State The legal profession in Nigeria is predominantly a male profession and that is why you hear the term ‘no ladies at the bar’. It would appear male lawyers are more successful. This is because the highest title a lawyer can attain in the profession is SANship and that position is almost a reserve for male lawyers in the country while the womenfolk are playing catch-up. For instance, as at 2021, the total number of senior advocates in Nigeria stood at 693 out of which the total number of women who reached that professional height has not exceeded 35 since inception. Even at that, some states have not produced a female SAN, so this is why ANAMBRA PEOPLE feels it is gratifying to bring to limelight two Anambra women who attained the silk (SANship) as it is called in the legal profession. PHOEBE C. AJAYI-OBE (NEE ERINNE) SAN: though late, was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1969. She was admitted to the Inner Bar in 1989, making her the fir...
