 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. Opara commended MACBAN for its readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting peace and security in Taraba. NIGERIAN MILITARY DECLARES IPOB A TERRORIST ORGANISATION TODAY.

                    Director, Defence Information, Major-General John Enenche, in a statement on Friday, said parents should dissuade their wards from joining the group and that the Armed Forces will confront “all security challenges facing the country.’’ Enenche listed reasons for the declaration to include, the formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads; extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal roadblocks, and militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on September 10, 2017. “From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation,” it said. UNITED STATES CALLS FOR END TO VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA THROUGH A TWEET.

     United States Mission to Nigeria said in a tweet on Friday that it is joining well-meaning Nigerians to sue for peace, calling for an end to violence in the country. The #OutOfManyOne is a Strength in Unity Video Contest sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, United States Embassy Abuja Nigeria. The call by the U.S. Mission comes the same day  South East governors held an emergency meeting in Enugu to a ddress issues of security in the zone, especially the recent clash between members of IPOB and the military in Abia state. The military has earlier started an operation code-named Operation Python Dance in the South East with the aim of ridding the region of criminals and other activities threatening the security of the area. This has lead to an altercation among many with fear of communal clashes. OBASEKI COMMISSIONS CLASSROOM BLOCKS,BOREHOLES IN OKPELLA EDO STATE.{PHOTO}.

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commissioned two blocks of classrooms as well as bore hole projects executed by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Anamero Idofe Anamero Foundation, at Ogute Community in Okpella, Estako East Local Government Area of the state. Speaking during the event on Thursday, Obaseki expressed his appreciation to the NGO for the gesture and called on other well spirited individuals and groups to partner with the state government in the development of rural communities. The projects commissioned were a block of six classrooms with an administrative office at Ogute Oke Secondary school; a block of three classrooms with headmaster’s office at Ufuokha Primary school and borehole projects in various communities in Okpella. KWARA STATE GOVT COMMENCED THE 2ND PHASE OF ITS LIGHT-UP KWARA.{PHOTO}

        The Kwara State government has commenced the second phase of its Light-Up Kwara (LUK), an innovative solar-powered streetlight project. The State Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Idris Garba, who made this known on Friday in Ilorin, stated that installation of streetlights along Kulende Estate Junction – Maraba, stretching through FCMB Muritala road has already been completed, while that of Surulere to Oja-Oba route is ongoing. He listed other routes to be covered under the second phase to include General Roundabout – Oja-Oba, Offa Garage – Unity roundabout, Michael Imodu – Offa Garage, Geri Alimi – CAILS and other roundabouts within the Metropolis. Others are Emir’s road – Post Office, Balogun Fulani – Gambari, Yebmot roundabout – Adeta roundabout and Abdulkadir road, Ilorin.        The Ogun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ibikunle Amosun has on Friday performed the ground breaking for the construction of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia in Ogun West Senatorial District of the state. Governor Ibikunle Amosun who led the technical team and other members of the state's executive council to Ipokia in company of his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga disclosed that the polytechnic would sit on a 500 hectares of land.More photos below.

NIGERIAN ARMY EXERCISE EGWU EKE II WILL TAKE OFF TOMORROW AS SCHEDULED.

       The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to some stories in the media that it is withdrawing its troops from Exercise EGWU EKE II, crediting such information to Abia State Governor and the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army. This is not true. The Nigerian Army wishes to enjoin members of the public to disregards such rumours. For the avoidance of doubt, the Abia State Governor  in his speech stated that “there will be gradual withdrawal of soldiers on the streets of Aba and Umuahia from tomorrow”. This should not be misconstrued as withdrawing of troops earmarked for Exercise EGWU EKE II. The General Officer Commanding 82 Division has not said such thing. Consequently, we wish to state that Exercise EGWU EKE II is commencing tomorrow as scheduled.       The Nigerian Army has accused some politicians of attempting to cause crisis between its personnel and people in the South East zone for their selfish interest as it launches exercise “Python Dance II’’. Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, the Director, Army Public Relations, made the accusation in an interview with newsmen on Friday. “It is so sad and unfortunate that a particular group of people, for political expediency and mischief, are trying to set the military and Nigerian society against each other. “It is sad, it is unfortunate,’’ Usman said while reacting to the face-off between the army and members of some groups in the zone, particularly in Abia. EKITI COMES TOP AS NECO RELEASES MAY/JUNE SSCE RESULTS.{READ}.

      The National Examinations Council (NECO) has said that no fewer than 745,053 out of the 1,051,472 candidates that sat for this year’s June/July Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) got five credits and above including English and Mathematics. The figure which represents 70.85 per cent, indicates 1.11 percent increase in performance of candidates compared to 2016. Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO Prof. Charles B. Uwakwe who announced the release of the result at the NECO headquarters in Minna Niger State  capital on Thursday said: “this year’s senior school certificate examination was a huge success”. The result also shows that 947,850, candidates representing 90.14 percent passed with five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics compared to 88..61 percent in 2016, adding that “this represents 1.63 percent improvement compared to last year”.
