 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.           Following the lockdown directive by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari on the COVID-19 Pandemic on Sun 29 March, 2020, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has ordered the shutdown of Driver's License Centres in Abuja with immediate effect, in line with the President’s directives to lockdown. Expectedly, the Drivers License Centres wil l not be able to process licenses for applicants nationwide. However, applicants can go via the By-pass mode to process for the license to be delivered after the lockdown period. In a press release by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, he revealed that the shutdown is aimed at sustaining existing endeavours already in place by the Federal Government to curtail further spread of the menace. LIRS EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR FILING OF ANNUAL RETURNS TO MAY 31,2020.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      In view of the coronavirus pandemic altering socio-economic activities around the world and as part of the on-going efforts to mitigate the effect on businesses and taxpayers, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing of Annual Returns for Individual taxpayers including self-employed persons for two (2) months from April 1 to May 31, 2020. Statutorily, the filing of a nnual returns expires on the March 31st of every fiscal year, and attracts stiff penalties for defaulters. With this extension as announced by LIRS, taxpayers are given a breather.       The Ogun State Government says the State will be locked down totally on Friday in line with the directive from the Federal Government. The State Goverrnor, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this at a press conference and inauguration of the State COVID-19 Isolation Centre at Ikenne, Ikenne LGA.       Ubasinachi Ekweozor and his wife Anulika Ubasinachi Ekweozor are in custody in Ikotun Police Station following the attack on their tenant Oyize Peter over unpaid water and electricity bills at their house located at No, 78, Amudalatu Agodo, Ikotun, Lagos. According to reports, Oyize was owing electricity bills and the electricity distribution company disconnected her house. The landlord was angered by this because the tenant’s house was also connected to the pumping machine that serves the entire compound. The landlord then called an electrician to connect the machine’s wire to his own apartment. He also got a plumber to disconnect Oyize’s pipe so she wouldn’t have access to water. Oyize refused to be sidelined in this way so she objected and it led to a verbal altercation.       There was anger in Warri on Monday afternoon as angry Warri youths threw away the garri of Warri women who were selling beyond normal market price. According to a post made by one Michael Ifeanyi Egunyenga, youths in Ubeji, Warri area of Delta state stormed the market and discovered that the market women were selling buckets of garri for N1500 instead of N750. The youths said that the women were selling at high prices, they described them as crude and wicked for selling garri beyond the recommended price.

      The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to its sweepers and PSP operators across the State to protect them from infection in the course of their duties.
