OXFORD DEBATING SOCIETY REMOVES PRESIDENT FOLLOWING REMARKS ABOUT CHARLIE KIRK . (PHOTOS).

Oxford debating society removes president following remarks about Charlie Kirk  The Oxford Union debating society has voted to remove President-elect George Abaraonye following reports that he celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. More than two-thirds of the society, one of Britain’s oldest, supported the no-confidence motion, resulting in Abaraonye’s ouster. The controversy stems from social media posts in which Abaraonye reportedly wrote, “Charlie Kirk got shot loool” on Instagram and shared similar messages on WhatsApp. Abaraonye and Kirk had previously met in May for a debate on toxic masculinity. Following the revelations, Abaraonye faced racial and online abuse, which the Oxford Union condemned while also moving forward with disciplinary proceedings. Abaraonye had called for the no-confidence vote himself, anticipating he would survive the two-thirds threshold, and he is now contesting the outcome, claiming that opponents had “unsupervised access...

Over their 217-million-year history, these insects have colonized nearly every region except Antarctica and select Arctic areas. Rising global temperatures, however, are allowing them to move into previously inhospitable regions. In Kiðafell, Kjós, insect enthusiast Björn Hjaltason discovered one male and two female mosquitoes in his garden and shared the find in the Facebook group Insects in Iceland. Hjaltason sent the specimens to entomologist Matthías Alfreðsson at the Icelandic Institute of Natural History, who identified them as Culiseta annulata, a species native to Europe, Central Asia, and North Africa. This marks the first time mosquitoes have been confirmed on Icelandic soil, leaving Antarctica as the only remaining mosquito-free region. While it is not yet clear if the species has established a permanent popu...

The airport in the center of the Sudanese capital was targeted at the very start of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), causing extensive damage to its buildings and an immediate halt to flights. Following its recapture of Khartoum earlier this year, the army-led government made renovating and restarting the airport one of its top priorities to signal a return to normal life in territories under its control. Over 1 million people have returned to the capital, the International Organization for Migration says, after millions left under an RSF occupation.
