APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.        The Edo State Government has engaged mothers as key stakeholders in the school system to monitor standards in its renewed effort to strengthen the basic education sector in the state. Acting Chairman, State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) and Special Adviser to the Governor of Edo State on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, charged the women to be vanguards of quality education in their neighbourhoods, when she received members of Mothers’ Association in Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, in her office, in Benin City. According to her, the state government’s policy on basic education recognises the role of key stakeholders in assuring standards, especially women, who are closer to primary school pupils and are in a better position to ascertain the quality of tutelage they receive from schools. UN APPOINTS ADEOSUN INTO PENSION FUND'S INVESTMENTS COMMITTEE.#PRESS RELEASE.

        Global organisation, the United Nations, has appointed Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, into the Investments Committee of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Under-Secretary-General of United Nations, Jan Beagle, who confirmed Adeosun’s appointment, disclosed that the Minister would serve a one-year term of office effective from January 1, 2018. DPR SEALS 6 FILLING STATIONS,ENFORCES N145 PER LITRE IN ANAMBRA STATE.{PHOTO}

        The affected filling stations were located in Awka, the capital city, Onitsha the commercial town and neighbouring Nkpor and Obosi. The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has seal off 6 fuel stations in Anambra for allegedly hoarding and selling petrol above the official pump price of N145 per litre. NAN reports that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold between N220 to N240 per litre in Awka and most parts of Anambra at outlets owned by major and independent marketers. FUEL TANK OF A TRUCK CONVEYING PETROL EXPLODES IN ANAMBRA YESTERDAY.{PHOTOS}.

      It happened  along Enugu-Onitsha expressway, a heavy-duty trailer loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) caught fire. What is still amazing is how the driver escaped with the truck head leaving only the fuel tank to go Ablaze.A pressman  who is on a election monitoring reports that there was no casualty and the men of Anambra State fire service were already on ground to salvage the situation. BURIAL OF FATHER ALOYSIUS NNAMDI IKEGWUONU A.K.A BISHOP IN OZUBULU.{PHOTOS}.

       One of the victims of the Ozubulu massacre, Chief Cyprian Otuadimma Ikegwuonu (Ichie Akunwafor) was buried in a special cenotaph dedicated for the victims of August 6th, 2017 church attack beside St Philip's Catholic Church, Amakwa Ozubulu in Anambra state. Chief Cyprian who was the father of the apparent target, Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu a.k.a Bishop, a wealthy young philanthropist - was buried on Friday  the 12th day of January, 2018. It could be remembered that gunmen stormed St Philip's Catholic Church during mass, opened fire killing 13 worshippers and injuring several others. The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi suggested that those that were killed should be buried in the piece of land adjacent to the church. According to reports, the 12th person was buried on 4th day of January and the 13th Ichie Ikegwuonu was buried on Friday.         The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced a total ban on the operations of cart pushers and wheel barrow operators in the State, saying that their activities were inimical to the environmental cleanliness in the State. In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello, the State Government said that with the flag off of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI), the continuous ac tivities of cart pushers will pose a threat to the success of the initiative.           The leader of the Odua Peoples Congress, OPC‎, Gani Adams, was on Saturday installed as the new Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. The event, witnessed by prominent Yoruba monarchs, governors and other officials, was held in Oyo town of Oyo State. He was given the title by the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi.
