PSC PROMOTES OVER 8,000 POLICE OFFICERS. (PHOTO).

 PSC Promotes Over 8,000 Police Officers On Wednesday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the promotion of 8,053 senior police officers. Earlier in the week, 11 Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs). Additionally, 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to DCPs, and 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) moved up to Assistant Commissioners (ACPs). According to a statement by the PSC's spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the total number of promotions included 1,348 Superintendents of Police (SPs) promoted to Chief Superintendents, 876 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) promoted to Superintendents, and 5,829 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) promoted to DSPs.  Manchester City star, Erling Haaland wins PFA Men's Players' Player of the Year  Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has won the PFA men's Players' Player of the Year award.  The Norway forward, 23, scored 52 goals in all competitions in his debut season with Pep Guardiola's side. He also helped City secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League last season. Haaland beat team-mates Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones, Arsenal's Saka and Martin Odegaard, and Tottenham's Harry Kane, now at Bayern Munich to scoop the award.  Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51.2m in June 2022. Gabonese military officers announce seize of power A group of senior Gabonese military officers appeared on national television in the early hours of Wednesday and said they had taken power, minutes after the state election body announced President Ali Bongo had won a third term. Appearing on television channel Gabon 24, the officers said they represented all security and defence forces in the Central African nation. They said the election results were cancelled, all borders closed until further notice and state institutions dissolved. Loud sounds of gunfire could be heard in the capital Libreville, a Reuters reporter said, after the television appearance. There was no immediate comment from the government of the OPEC-member nation. Internet Fraud: EFCC Returns $26,000 to Briton Christine Brown, a British national and a victim of internet fraud was on Monday, August 28, 2023 presented with the sum of $26,000USD by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Brown expressed gratitude to the Commission for its efforts which she said, has brought some succour to her after losing her life’s savings to the fraudsters. The 70-year-old had petitioned the Commission after being defrauded by an internet fraudster through a romance scam. Narrating her ordeal, Brown said she became a victim after she met a purported John Barrowman, an entertainer and citizen of America online. Unknown to her, he was a fraudster. Court Sends Barber, One Other to Prison in Benin City A 25-year-old barber, Ogudu Matthew and Ajayi Osamuyi were on Tuesday, August 29, 2024, convicted and sentenced to prison by Justice M. Itsueli of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State for internet fraud. The duo were arraigned on one count charge of  impersonation and obtaining by false pretence by the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Ogudu and Osamuyi’s road to prison began following their arrest based on intelligence linking them to internet-related fraud activities. In the course of the investigation, Osamuyi was discovered to have impersonated Huang Dingxiang, a Chinese national in order to defraud unsuspecting victims. EFCC Arrests 17 Suspected “Yahoo Boys” in Uyo Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. They were arrested during a sting operation following a series of intelligence reports which linked the suspects to all kinds of online criminal activities. Items recovered from them include; sophisticated mobile phones, a television set, a red Toyota Camry LE car, a black Honda car and two Lexus cars. The suspects will be charged to Court as soon as the investigations are concluded.

The woman, 64, had for months suffered symptoms like stomach pain, a cough and night sweats, which evolved into forgetfulness and depression. Wake Up To Reality, Nigeria Is A Poor Country, Governor Soludo Tells Nigerians The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has said that it is high time Nigerians and their leaders woke up to the reality that Nigeria is a poor country. Governor Soludo who said this on Tuesday while speaking at the 9th (7th Quadrennial) Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Anambra State wing, said that Nigerians should learn to live within the country's means. He asked Nigerian leaders to live and demonstrate to Nigerians that the country is poor, noting that the reality of the fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu’s administration affected everybody, not just civil servants. Soludo, who commended President Tinubu for the fuel subsidy removal described the move as necessary, saying it has the potential to re-engineer the nation’s economy. “It’s high time the country woke up to the reality that it is a poor country and began to live within its means.

FIRE DISASTER DESTROYS SHOPS AT MARKET IN GUBIO TOWN IN NORTHERN BORNO An early morning fire disaster in Gubio town has destroyed all the lock-up shops at the community market.  The fire had razed the 24 lock-up shops with many storing grain, Agro chemicals, provision and other commodities all destroyed as the traders counted their losses. The caretaker chairman Gubio local government Mali Bulama Mali had in swift response inspected the burnt shops for an on-the-spot assessment of the extent of damage and traders' losses. He promised to rebuild the destroyed market shops and assist the victims. More photos below.
