 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  Woman left without both eyes after being stabbed with a screwdriver by her ex-boyfriend A very tragic incident recently occurred in Richmond. Bongeka Nxele, the woman in the photo, told her boyfriend that she no longer wanted to be with him. This made the boyfriend angry, and he stabbed both of her eyes with a screwdriver, leaving her blind. The man was later arrested and is expected to appear in court today, April 29, 2025, at the Richmond court. Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is expected to be in Richmond to support women.

 Four Killed in Head-On Collision on R23 Road Four people lost their lives in a tragic head-on collision between a sedan and a Ford Ranger bakkie on the R23 road between Balfour and Greylingstad last night. The victims include the drivers of both vehicles and two passengers. One passenger from the bakkie sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Suikerbosrand Life Care Hospital in Heidelberg. He has since been discharged. According to Moet Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the sedan involved in the collision was being towed at the time of the crash. The other sedan, which was towing it, was not damaged and its driver was unharmed. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear, and an investigation is underway. More photos below.

 Operation Sebabougou: Malian Forces Strengthen Sahel Security Since dawn on April 28, the Malian Armed Forces launched a major operation in the Sébabougou sector, in the Nioro region of the Sahel, according to an army statement. The objective was to restore order and secure the return of populations displaced by the atrocities of armed terrorist groups, Sputnik reported. The operation's progress is marked by key achievements: Regaining control of Sébabougou after an ambush attempt was repelled; Airstrikes destroyed several enemy bases in forested areas; 21 terrorist fighters were neutralized, with substantial quantities of weapons recovered. During the operation, five Malian soldiers were injured, and the Malian army seized military equipment left behind by fleeing terrorists.

 Ghana arrests three Indian nationals over suspected gold smuggling ring Three Indian nationals have been arrested in Ghana on suspicion of operating a gold smuggling syndicate that authorities believe has been taking tons of the precious metal out of the country for over a decade, the West African country's gold trading regulator said on Tuesday, Reuters reported. The three pleaded guilty at their arraignment and will remain in custody until a court hearing scheduled for May 12, a spokesperson for the regulator GoldBod said. Ghana and some other African countries have been losing billions of dollars' worth of gold every year due to smuggling. The country established a new government body known as GoldBod in March to streamline gold purchases from small-scale miners, increase their earnings and reduce the impact of smuggling.  NEMA receives 203 ‘vulnerable’ Nigerian returnees from Libya The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says it has received a total of 203 vulnerable Nigerians stranded in Libya. Upon arrival at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Monday, they were welcomed by the emergency agency and other stakeholders. The returnees were aboard a chartered Al Buraq Boeing aircraft with registration number 5A-BAC.  ICJ to rule in Sudan-UAE genocide case on May 5 The International Court of Justice said on Tuesday it would issue its ruling in Sudan's case against the United Arab Emirates on May 5, AFP reported. Khartoum has dragged the UAE before the ICJ, accusing it of complicity in genocide by backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) battling the Sudanese army since 2023. The UAE denies supporting the rebels and has dismissed Sudan's case as "political theatre" distracting from efforts to end the war that has killed thousands of people. Sudan wants ICJ judges to force the UAE to stop its alleged support for the RSF and make "full reparations", including compensation to victims of the war. Legal experts say Sudan's case may founder on jurisdictional issues. Like neighbours Mali and Niger, Burkina Faso is pushing for greater control over its resources and revised its mining code last year, creating a new state mining company, Société de Participation Minière du Burkina (SOPAMIB). It used SOPAMIB to gain control of two industrial gold mines previously owned by a London-listed Endeavour Mining in a deal finalised late last year. In a public notice titled “Carrying on Business in Nigeria Under an Unregistered Name or Acronym,” released on Tuesday, the CAC warned that operating as a company, limited liability partnership, limited partnership, or under a business name without registration is a criminal offense under Section 863 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.  EFCC Quizzes  Suspected “Yahoo” School  Operators and Students Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  commenced  investigation  of 30 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in a Yahoo training School (a.k.a Hustle Kingdom, HK) in Benin City. The suspects, arrested by officers of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army at their hideout in Benin City,  were on Monday April 28, 2025 handed over to the EFCC for further investigation. At the time of arrest, the Yahoo School has  full trappings of a conventional computer school with desktop computers, work stations and other computer accessories. There was also a compartment stocked with various fetish items. Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Corolla car,  phones,  laptops and Mpeg Audio-layer 3,  MP3. The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday in Benin by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor.  Petrol Price Drop Driving Down Cooking Gas Costs — IPMAN The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria says the recent decline in petrol prices has triggered a drop in cooking gas prices across the country. A 12.5kg refill now sells for around N16,250 in Abuja—down from N17,500—while Lagos residents pay as low as N13,750, compared to over N17,000 in late 2024. IPMAN attributes the trend to reduced demand for LPG as petrol-powered alternatives become more affordable, noting further drops may follow based on market dynamics.

 Tension in Sunny Ade’s Family Over Music Legend’s Whereabouts Concerns have emerged among the children of juju icon King Sunny Ade (KSA) over his safety and accessibility, with his daughter Damilola Esther accusing her stepbrother, Dayo, of holding their father hostage and mismanaging his affairs. Damilola, in a series of social media posts, alleged that Dayo—who she described as KSA’s manager—was booking shows without honoring them and keeping the music legend out of reach. In response, Dayo denied the allegations, stating KSA is healthy and actively performing, with a show scheduled in Akure on May 1. He clarified that he is not KSA’s official manager but only assisting temporarily. Another son, David, also dismissed Damilola’s claims, affirming their father is fine.  Swedish Court Jails Four Teens for Shooting at Israeli Tech Firm A Swedish court on Monday sentenced four teenagers to up to five years in prison for orchestrating a 2024 shooting targeting Israeli defense company Elbit Systems in Gothenburg.  A 13-year-old carried out the attack but was not charged due to his age. No injuries were reported. Authorities say the mastermind remains unidentified. The incident is among several recent threats to Israeli interests in Sweden amid the Gaza conflict.

 Family of Slain KAROTA Officer Demands Justice, Compensation from Kano Govt The family of Yahaya Idris Ismail Barista, a KAROTA officer fatally stabbed during a night patrol in Kano, has urged the state government and agency to ensure justice and provide compensation. Barista was allegedly attacked by a truck driver on April 24 while attempting to stop the vehicle. Speaking during a condolence visit, a family representative appealed for prosecution of the suspects and support for the officer’s widows and seven children. KAROTA’s Managing Director assured the family of justice and continued support, as police confirmed arrests in connection to the case.

 Boko Haram Kills Seven Mourners in Fresh Borno Attack Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a mourning gathering in Kopl Village, Chibok LGA, Borno State on Monday, killing at least seven people and injuring several others. The ambush occurred around 6 p.m. during funeral prayers, with victims rushed to Mubi General Hospital in Adamawa State. Chibok LGA Chairman Modu Mustapha confirmed the incident, warning the death toll may rise as search operations continue. The attack came hours after an IED explosion killed dozens along Gamboru Ngala-Kala Balge Road. Senator Ali Ndume condemned the rising insecurity, noting over 100 people have died in similar attacks across Borno in the past month.

The court, presided over by Brigadier General Sadisu Buhari, found Mohammed guilty under Section 106(a) of the Armed Forces Act, while Yusuf was convicted under Section 107(1)(b).
