 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. A Nigerian, Okey Eze, who claims to be a tiler by profession has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja with 350 wraps of cocaine worth over N2.3billion in street value. The 38-year-old Eze, from Orji River, in Oji-River Local Government area of Enugu State was arrested on Wednesday 22nd September, 2021 during an inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian airline flight number 911 enroute Bamako-Addis Ababa- Abuja. The illicit drug weighing 7.70kilograms was concealed in eight packs tucked in different parts of his luggage. In his confession, Eze, a resident of Bamako, Mali, said he traveled to Mali through Seme border in Badagry, Lagos state since 2019. President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in New York declared that Federal Government has initiated some specific actions to tackle and reverse the severe trend of biodiversity loss which affects the whole world. The President spoke in a video message to the hybrid High-Level event tagged “Transformative Actions for Nature and People” on the margins of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 76). The Lagos State Government has commenced total enforcement and clampdown operations against indiscriminate dredging activities and unapproved shoreline extensions along Lagos Waterfront. LASG COMMENCES REHABILITATION OF IYANA-ERA ROAD … To Divert Traffic from the Road for 12 Months The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the rehabilitation of the failed section of Iyana-Era Road and the construction of a 20-metre bridge, just as it informed that traffic would be diverted in the axis from midnight of Friday, September 24, 2021, for a period of 12 months. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, explained that the construction is vital to addressing the factors responsible for the rapid and frequent deterioration of that section of the road, stressing that the portions before and after the existent culverts had submerged into the surrounding swam, hence the need for a bridge. As part of efforts towards improving the Justice system, Anambra state government through the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, ROLAC,  has launched "Plea Bargain" manual, and flagged-off operation of "Plea Bargain" as an alternative approach to criminal trail cases in the state. The "Plea Bargain" is a new approach to criminal trail cases in Anambra state, where the defendant in a criminal trail who applies to the prosecutorial authority, showing his willingness to plea guilty to a particular offence is charged for a lesser or more lenient punishment being entered in his favour. While the Anambra state Ministry of Justice Plea Bargain manual is a guide to the step by step procedure on the implementation of the Plea Bargain provision under section 167 ACJL, 2010. CHINESE BANKS SET TO ESTABLISH OPERATIONS IN NIGERIA.{PHOTO}.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchin, has disclosed that his country is working towards the establishment of Chinese-owned bank operations in Nigeria. Mr Jianchin this known in Abuja while addressing journalists during the commemoration of the 2021 Chinese Moon Festival and China-Nigeria Cultural week on Tuesday. Jianchin who said he was in talks with Chinese-owned banks, noted that among the world’s 10 biggest banks, six were in China. “Before my departure from Beijing to Abuja, I talked to several banks in China. When you list the world’s 10 big banks, six are in China. The banking sector is very important because, without money, we cannot build our industries. “What I am thinking here is best to talk to the governor of the central bank, and how we can allow the Chinese banks to run office here and now, they are doing the feasibility studies on that." He explained that it would boost Nigeria’s economy and expand trade relations between the two nations.

According to Sanusi, people must suffer for things to get right. He said; “In my own knowledge about economy, I know that we must suffer to get things right. “What is expected of us now is patient, fervent prayers and we must stand up to get things better in our own way through a legitimate ways. “We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders because the Holy Prophet is against that. “And we will not involve ourselves in corrupt practices and other atrocities because our religion preaches against it. “We must change for the better and remain committed to peace and development of our societies."
