HONDA RECALLS OVER 400,000 VEHICLES DUE TO RISK OF WHEELS DETACHING. (PHOTO).

Image
Honda recalls over 400,000 vehicles due to risk of wheels detaching Honda is recalling more than 400,000 Civics due to a potential safety issue with some accessory wheels that could detach while driving. The recall covers Honda Civics from model years 2016 through 2021, according to a Nov. 6 notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). While 406,290 vehicles are included, Honda said only 3,276 of the 18-inch aluminum alloy accessory wheels sold in the U.S. may have been improperly manufactured. Honda is recalling all affected vehicles so dealers can inspect the wheels and replace hubs or wheels as needed, free of charge. The automaker explained that the steel lug seat inserts in the accessory wheels may not have been installed correctly. This can cause the lug nut seating surface to deform over time, potentially loosening the wheel nuts and allowing a wheel to come off, which could increase the risk of a crash or injury. Honda has not received any confir...

Image
US revokes 80,000 non-immigrant visas, says State Department  Since January, the Trump administration has revoked 80,000 nonimmigrant visas for a range of offenses, prioritizing national security, a State Department official said. Tommy Pigott, the department’s deputy spokesperson, said the most common reasons for revocation were driving under the influence, theft, and assault. “We will not tolerate people — foreigners here on visas — that break our laws. Being here is a privilege, it’s not a right,” Pigott said on Friday. Pigott emphasized that the revocations are a matter of national security, dismissing claims that individuals were targeted for their political or social views. The administration has increased social media vetting and expanded visa screening, including revoking thousands of student visas earlier this year for overstays and, in a few cases, alleged support of terrorism. Last month, the department revoked visas for at least six individuals over social media c...

Zimnako Salah, 29, of Phoenix, had argued that he merely forgot his backpack in the church bathroom and had committed no act of terrorism. A jury convicted Salah in April on charges of providing false information, committing a hoax, and obstructing the free exercise of religion. Prosecutors also determined that the act was a hate crime, as Salah targeted the church because of the congregants’ Christian faith. U.S. District Judge Dena Coggins, citing the seriousness of the offense and Salah’s lack of remorse, also imposed a $10,000 fine. Authorities said Salah visited four churches across California, Arizona, and Colorado between September and November 2023. At two churches, he left backpacks that parishioners believed contained explosives, prompting heightened se...

AUSTRALIAN STATE CONSIDERS ALLOWING DINGOES TO BE KEPT AS PETS. (PHOTO).

Image
Australian state considers allowing dingoes to be kept as pets Queensland is considering reclassifying dingoes to allow them as household pets, a move that would shift the animals from their current status as an invasive species to Canis familiaris, or domestic dogs. The proposal is part of a broader review of the state’s biosecurity laws, with legislative amendments expected in the spring. Under current rules, dingoes cannot be released, relocated, fed, sold, or kept, though they remain protected in national parks, and landholders can take measures to safeguard livestock from wild dogs or dingoes. The potential change has sparked opposition from wildlife experts and advocates. Critics argue that dingoes are a distinct species with unique ecological roles, not suited to domestic life. Genetics researcher Kylie Cairns noted that dingoes’ intelligence and agility make them poor candidates for home environments, as they can easily escape or outsmart traditional containment. While din...
