 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. ATTACK ON NDA: TROOPS GO AFTER BANDITS AS MILITARY VOW TO RESCUE KIDNAPPED OFFICER.{PHOTO}.

After bandits invaded the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), located at Afaka permanent site of the institution and killed two personnel with the abduction of another officer on Tuesday morning in Kaduna state, the Military are currently trailing the dare-devil terrorists. Major Bashir Muhd Jajira, spokesman of the establishment, which is the main institution, for the training of the elite corps of the Nigerian military – army, navy and air force, confirmed that its personnel, had commenced an intense manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators of the high crime. The pursuit is being done in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna, Jajira, said in a statement, shortly after the news broke, adding that the search was being carried out within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Tuesday said the Boko Haram sect has attacked him more than 50 times. The governor said this in an interactive session with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari. He said over 100,000 Borno indigenes have been killed in the 12-year-old insurgency in the North East. The governor, who also disclosed that 2,600 insurgents had surrendered, added that the figure included children, wives, and other family members of the former fighters. More photos below.

A farmer has said he derives pleasure in raping old women in their farms.   Stephen John, a farmer in Ore, Odigbo council area of Ondo state, made this statement after he was arrested by police detectives in the state for raping a lady, Fatima Yahaya, who was sent on an errand by her mother.   He reportedly grabbed the victim and dragged her into the bush at about 7am, then he raped her.   A police source said that the suspect always lays ambush for his victims in the farm while he pretends to be working.   Parading the suspect alongside twelve others for criminal activities across the state in recent times, the state police commissioner, Bolaji Salami described the suspect as a serial rapist, adding that he ambushed and raped women in their farms within Ore axis.     Salami said: "On the 5th  August, 2021, at about 0830hrs, one Oluwakemi Isaac ‘f’ of Tajudeen Street in Ore, came to Ore Police Station and reported that on same date at about 0700hrs, sh...

Aloy Ejimakor, who is one of the counsels to the leader of the indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that he is receiving death threats “from people I’ve been defending for years.” In a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Monday, Ejimakor linked the threat of murder from IPOB members to the controversial suspension of the sit-at-home directive by the IPOB leadership. “I can no longer keep quiet because I’m receiving DEATH THREATS from people I’ve been defending for years. Residents of Edo State without evidence of COVID-19 vaccination, will no longer be allowed access to public and private places, including banks, event and worship centres, from the second week of September.  According to Obaseki, “Beginning from the second week of September 2021, large gatherings, as well as high traffic public and private places will only be accessed by persons who have proof of taking at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination. People who have not yet been vaccinated at all will depend on remote access to these gatherings. “From the second week of September people may not be allowed to worship in churches and mosques without showing proof of their vaccination cards at the gates. “Similarly, people will not be allowed at event centers, receptions or parties, without showing proof of their vaccination cards.”

Six Kidnapped Tegina Students Dead Six of the 136 students kidnapped from an Islamic school in Tegina Niger state have died of illness, the school principal said. The abductors have demanded a ransom to release the students, kidnapped in May after an armed gang on motorcycles attacked the school. The principal, Abubakar Garba Alhasan, said the kidnappers had called to say the children died from sickness and to urge that the ransom demand be met. Abubakar Adam, whose seven children are held by the gang, said the abductors called the principal to demand a ransom.

The leadership crisis currently rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, worsened on Monday as High Court in Rivers State has restrained Uche Secondus from parading himself as the National Chairman of the party. The order was given by Justice O. Gbasam of the State High Court sitting in Degema local government area of the State. The judge also approved the suspension of Secondus as a member of the party pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice for interlocutory injunction. The order followed a complaint brought before the court by some aggrieved members of the party. Historically, Wachakal town in Karasuwa local government existed as human settlement for over 600 years, but this is the first time in life the town is having electricity.
