APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.     After the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, Minister of Power,Works and Housing, Tunde Fashola; Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika; and Minister of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu Kazaure briefed the press on the outcome of the meeting.   # FECBrief FEC today approved a Ministry of Power,Works and Housing Memo providing a framework of investment in expanding the national distribution network,to deliver an extra 2000 megawatts of electricity to consu mers Nigeria today has 2000 megawatts of electricity that cannot reach consumers because of lack of distribution capacity. Also presently, Nigeria can generate 7,000 megawatts of electricity. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), following extensive grid expansion in the last two years, also now has the capacity to wheel the 7,000 megawatts. But bottlenecks exist at the distribution (Disco) level, with only 5,000 megawatts of distribution capacity. Hence the need for expansion. ...

     The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos zonal office, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, arraigned the duo of Tochukwu Iwuoha, Managing Director, Sidol Investment Limited, and Jude Unagha before Justice S. O. Solebo of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on a six-count charge bordering on forgery. The offence is contrary to Section 363(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State , 2011. The suspects sometime in May 2016 allegedly forg ed a document entitled “Acknowledgement form” purported to have emanated from the Department of Commercial Law, Trade Marks, Patent and Design Registry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.  One of the counts reads: “That you, Tochukwu Iwuoha, on or about 30th August, 2017 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, had in your possession a forged document titled: Acceptance Form” purported to have emanated from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Department of Commercial ...

     Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has lamented the mass unemployment challenge currently facing the country, describing it as a time bomb to which the government must pay an urgent attention to. He made the remarks yesterday while hosting the 8, 412 beneficiaries of the Federal Government N-Power scheme in the state and charged them to deliver great service to Nigeria and particularly Ekiti. The governor also donated 300 laptop computers to them, and singling out an outstanding graduate of English from Obafemi Awolowo university, 25-year-old Fajana Olabisi Motinoluwa from Ekiti East Local Area of the state, who had also won gold medal for the state in Essay competitions, the governor promised her a scholarship for Masters degree programme and a government job after completion. OBASEKI ORDERS SEARCH FOR BOMBS IN OKPELLA AS EXPLOSION KILLS ONE,BOMB FACILITY DISCOVERED.{PHOTOS}.

         Following the explosion that rocked Okpella community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, yesterday, the Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has directed the commissioner of police and the Director of Department of State Services (DSS) in the state, to commence search for explosives and other weapons and dis-arm the militia group operating in the community. Obaseki gave the directive after listening to the traditional ruler of Okpella, His Royal Highness (HRH) Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, Alhaji Andrew Dirisu and chiefs from the different clans in the community who paid the governor a courtesy visit at the Government House. He told his guests that the report of a bomb explosion in Okpella is disheartening and must be investigated. It was gathered that a strange vehicle was seen in Okpella and when concerned people in the community stopped the vehicle, the occupants fled.
