APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. INEC Ad-Hoc Staff Shot Dead By Political Thugs In Rivers  Arumodum Julius Akoi, an ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was shot and killed by political thugs in Ward 7 Abua Central, Abua-Odual local government area of Rivers State. The incident happened during the governorship and House of Assembly election on Saturday, March 18, 2023. It was gathered that the ad hoc staff died while he was being rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed one person dead at Abual-Odual but didn't give further details. Friends have taken to Facebook to mourn the deceased. Living Olavokere Jamala.

ELECTIONS DUTY: IGP EMBARKS ON ELECTION MONITORING/ PATROL, VISITS KADUNA, PLATEAU BY ROAD The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, in the quest to bolster election security management of the Nigeria Police Force and further assess the policing strategies along  Abuja, Kaduna and Plateau State routes for general safety of road users in the axis, embarked on an election monitoring patrol by road across the states to assure residents and electorates of their security during and after the elections. The IGP’s patrol convoy took off on Saturday, 18th March, 2023, from the FCT Abuja and proceeded to cover all the areas along the Abuja – Jere – Kwoi – Kafanchan – Jos – and Kaduna axis. The IGP also took time to make strategic stops at polling units along the axis covered and interfaced with senior officers of the NPF, the military, paramilitary, and traditional rulers. Murder Of Rivers APC Campaign DG: CP Vows To Bring Perpetrators To Book ....As CP Assures of Diligent Investigation March 19, 2023  The Commissioner of Police in charge of Election duties in Rivers State, CP Echeng Echeng tasked operatives of the Command to deploy all necessary human and investigative assets to ensure that the killers of the Campaign Director-General for the All Progressives Congress in Ahoada West , Mr. Chisom Leonard are brought to book. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement said   information gathered revealed that the Campaign DG was shot by yet to be identified gunmen yesterday.  She added that the Commissioner of Police commiserate with family of the bereaved and promised to bring perpetrators of such heinous crime to justice.  Picture at Viewer's Discretion

ELECTION IN RIVERS A COMPLETE FAILURE, SAYS AMAECHI 19th March, 2023  Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, has described the governorship and House of Assembly election in Rivers State as a complete failure based on the intimidation of voters by thugs. The former governor, who spoke with journalists after casting his vote in polling unit 14, ward 8, Ubima community, Ikwerre LGA, faulted the inability of Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), to address the arrest and intimidation of members of opposition parties in the state. He said that Governor Nyesom Wike lacks the power to declare anybody wanted, even as he expressed concern over low voter turnout in the state, adding that it is a result of voter intimidation.
