 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation.  Cairo August 17 2022: Egyptian central bank Governor Tarek Amer resigned, a shock decision one day before an interest-rate meeting and with pressure mounting on the currency. Amer was appointed as an adviser to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported Wednesday. No further details were given on his resignation, and it didn’t say who would be the next governor. Derivatives traders added to bets for a weaker pound. In the non-deliverable forwards market, the three-month contract was around 21.1 per dollar Wednesday, compared with 20.4 on Tuesday. The spot rate slipped 0.1% to 19.16 against the dollar in the offshore market. The departure adds more uncertainty for an economy that’s under pressure from the spillover effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. KDSG Security Update: Wednesday 17th August 2022.  Clearance operations continue across the state.  - Troops dislodge bandits' camp, rescue six hostages in Chikun LGA.  Following the weekend breakthrough, security forces have continued with clearance operations in identified bandit and terrorist enclaves around the state.  From a recent operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government, troops of Operation Forest Sanity in the early hours of Tuesday carried out a raid, and rescue operations, in Kuriga and Manini communities of Chikun local government area.  According to the report, the troops made contact and engaged bandits at the suspected enclave. After clearing the camp, the troops rescued six kidnapped citizens who were held at the location. Anambra Ministry Of Health Begins Inspection Of Hospital Facilities  The Anambra State Ministry of Health has begun inspecting Anambra state's general hospitals.  The purpose of the inspection is to monitor the activities of the hospitals and to ensuring that they are functional and can provide the necessary services.  The inspection began with visits to the general Hospitals in Onitsha, Ogidi, and Ifitedunu.  While expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of maintenance of facilities in the hospital and staff laxity, the leader of the task force leader, Mrs Obiageli Uchegbu, and the ministry of health's head of administration, Mr Okechukwu Obi, stated in an interview that the inspection will ensure that the government revives the state's health sector, and to sanction any facility performing below expectation.  Welcoming the team, the deputy chief medical director, General Hospital, Onitsha, Dr Nnamdi Ekpelinwa, thanked the Anambra State government for conduct...

Anambra Government Marks Over 50 Structures For Demolition Over Breach Of Master Plan At Umuokpu Timber Market Anambra State Government has marked over fifty structures for demolition at Umuokpu-Awka Timber Market.  They structures were said to have breached the master plan of the market and did not have approval plans. This came after a combined team of Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, visited the market following a reliable tip-off.  The marked structures, according to valid sources, were allegedly erected through shady deals involving the market's leadership. These moves, according to local regulatory agencies, were neither authorized nor followed development procedures contained in the master plan for the market. Reps Probes Award Of N18 Billion Naira By Ministry Of Agriculture To Clear Bush The House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Accounts is investigating the Federal Ministry of Agriculture over the award of contracts worth about N18.9bn to several companies to clear bushes during the COVID-19 lockdown. Chairman of the committee, Oluwole Oke, made this known at an investigative hearing in Abuja on Tuesday. The lawmaker stated that the House was interested in finding out the location and significance of such projects. He disclosed that the committee had consequently invited the ministry and the companies involved. The invited firms were, however, conspicuously absent at the hearing without any reason for their non-appearance.

Bawa Charges Media to Shun Biases in Reporting Economic Crimes The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa has called on the media to shun biases of ethnicity, religion and political affiliations in the reporting of financial crimes, stressing that the fight against corruption should transcend such considerations. He gave the charge on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 in Abuja while declaring open a One- Day Workshop on Financial Crimes Reporting organised by the EFCC for Financial Crimes Reporters.  Bawa explained that the EFFC is making progress in securing convictions, pointing out that as at August 5, 2022, the Commission has secured 2210 convictions. “This is just ten convictions short of the 2220 convictions secured in 2021”, he said. EFCC Secures Conviction of Internet Fraudster in Lagos The Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Badmus Usman Olaitan to one year in prison for romance scam before Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. Olaitan was arraigned on an amended one-count charge.  The count reads: "Badmus Usman Olaitan, on or about the 20th day of January 2022 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, had in your possession a document titled Google account personal info and other related documents for romance dating scam printed from your gmail account, which you knew to be false." He pleaded “guilty” to the charge.

Four Students Celebrating WASSCE At Lagos Beach Drown, One Body Recovered Four teenagers have drowned while swimming at Elegushi Beach, in the Lekki area of Lagos State. Channels Television gathered that the unidentified victims were swimming in the water before tragedy struck on Tuesday. The 10 children, aged between 14 and 15, were at the beach to celebrate the completion of their West African Senior School Examination. They were said to be pupils of the Kuramo Senior College, Lekki. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident to Channels Television. In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the corpse of one of the students has been recovered. He also stated that efforts were ongoing to recover the bodies of the three other students with the assistance of local divers.
